Ryan

Meh, if Horton is healthy, he'll be a nice addition to the 2012' playoff team that lost to Washington.

I'm betting after hearing of what Howson got in exchange for Nash, Murray is sitting in Anaheim trying to figure out a way to mend the fences w/ Bobby Ryan.

Gotta say, noooooooooooooooooope.

It's like the bruins were until we got Seidenberg. Whenever their bigtime #1 is not on the ice, goals against will happen. And they don't exactly have Tim Thomas between the pipes or a strong defensive system to bail them out.

They don't have a Seidenberg or even a Boychuk on that defense. Even if they get Weber, their defense is Weber and Not Much. This is the 08-09 version of the defense. The one that utterly fell apart when a couple guys got hurt and Chara was playing through something.

And again -- their goaltender is very mediocre, and won't be saving their butts like Timmy did.

Not even a little bit. Not even freaking close, unless Pronger is healthy and ROFLMAO.

Murray is in a tough spot right now. Howson got a very underwhelming package for Nash and there is absolutely no way Murray gets more than that for Ryan after today.

If I'd had to hazard a guess, Ryan is off the market right now. He's worth more than what the jackets got for Nash, and he's not likely to get it.

The Rangers managed to keep important players and get Nash.

Not to mention that pp of theirs is going to be deadly.

Newsflash, we still have Doug Houda as our power play coach. THAT'S a big deal.

wow what a bad return. Question is how do the Rangers afford that many big salarys and still put depth on the ice next season?

Well considering that Ryan doesn't come with an egregious contract, I'm not sure that's true.

Answer is they don't. The Rangers are either going to trim their D or become the Tampa Bay Lightning with a better goaltender.

Weber
Timmonen
Coburn
Meszaros
Grossman
Schenn
Bourdon/Lilja/Gervais

LOL if you don't think Coburn and Timmonen aren't better than Boychuk, and I bet that by the end of the year we'll be saying Schenn is as well.

which is why I am not sure this is a good move for the rangers. Did they get the best player in the deal? Sure but what is it going to do to the rest of their roster come the start of the season.

Good question.

Shame that we are one of the 2-3 teams who won't get any of the guys they are going to try to dump.

stick9 I can't believe you think PITT is better in goal than the Bruins are. MA Fleury is a train wreck more often than not. I'm not a huge fan of Rask [I think he is a touch over rated here] but there is no doubt in my mind that he is better than Fleury or anyone else PITT could put between the pipes.

5 years ago Kimmo Timmonen was an awesome defender. If you think he's going to be good for top pairing duties at age 38, you have another think coming.

As for Coburn, eh. He's not bad, but he won't carry a defense. I put him at roughly the same level as Andrew Ference.

I'd be more worried about some young stud pulling a Boychuk than I would about any current Flyers defender in uniform.

By not overpaying to retain their bottom 6 types and 5/6th d-men?

Depth is nice if you have it, but having better players on your top 6 is a far safer investment.

They don't have a 4mill salary on LTIR or a 5+ mill goalie ready to walk on a contract. Rangers are in better financial shape then Boston for next year even after they added Nash.

Why would they shop him? They're committed to 57mill next season with only one real standout to resign in MDZ.

They are well below the cap and have 7 top 6 F: Nash, Richards, Gaborik, Callahan, Kreider and Stepan. They go with 2 great scoring lines and 2 good checking lines with guys like Boyle, Rupp, Asham, Pyatt and Halpern. There's not a lot of scoring on the bottom 6 but again, they have lots of cap room to make more moves if they want.
