Iggy to Buffalo (trade deadline)

Obviously things will have to go very right with the Sabres (could happen with Ennis and Hodgson) and wrong for Calgary.

So what would it take to finally bring Iginla to Buffalo, if only on a rental bases.

I'd think I would go with Ennis over Hodgson.

Then an NHL player with a high cap hit like Leino.

A prospect like Pysyk or McNabb.

So....
To Flames
Ennis
Leino
Pysyk/McNabb
1st round pick

To sabres
Iginla
2nd round pick

I would only do this deal if Iggy signs an extension. This seems like a lot but Calgary would certainly ask for a lot.

No, let's not trade any of our center prospects. We finally have some skilled center depth for the first time since you-know-what, but none of our guys are proven #1C's. Until one emerges into at the very least a Krejci/Ribiero type, none of Ennis/Hodgson/Grigorenko are going anywhere.

We're not contending next year, so I'd be against trading a 2nd rounder for a Dominic Moore type at the deadline, let alone great young talent for a very expensive rental. We're building for the future right now and Iginla will be too old by the time our new core ripens.

I'd love to have seen Iggy win a cup with us alongside the umpteen other ex-Flames on our roster, but that ship has sailed. Both our teams are bubble teams, it makes no sense.

Good value, but hell no from Buffalo. Why do we want Iggy? We're not winning the cup this season, imo.

Sooo... Buffalo's C depth becomes Hodgson McCormick? We can't assume Grigs and Girgs are rdy for NHL play, and Adam was sort fo a bust last season. Likewise, Leino sucks at C (and he's in this trade as well) and Ott plays wing... This deal makes absolutely no sense for Buffalo.

The value seems fair, but it's a no go from a Flames perspective. I want to see Iginla traded so the team will move forward, but this deal is so underwhelming when you look at it with more than a passing glance. Ennis is tiny, and the Flames have more than enough tiny players on the team and in the system. He doesn't address a long term need, which is what an Iginla trade would have to do. Another three years of Leino is penal beyond belief. If you're looking at a moderate dump with longer term implications you're looking at Stafford, not Leino. Buffalo is stuck with that contract. If a deal could be worked I would think it would focus on Hodgson and McNabb for Iginla, with picks added to the mix depending on specific conditions that work for both teams, like signing an extension or playing X number of games or making a given round in the post season.

Thank you!! This is a seriously flawed trade idea.

That is way too much for any rental. Even Iggy.
We're not a cup contender this year, imho, and that deal would absolutely gut our future to pretend that we are.
...Not to mention we'd have no one left to step into the empty D spots next year when Regehr, Sulzer, and Leo's contracts all expire, and our NHL center depth would become Hodgson, Ott(?) and McCormick.

So, the Sabres are winning a lot (Thus why we'd want a big name rental), and to improve you want to trade one of our top 2 centers? It makes no sense at all. If you really want to add at the deadline because you are winning, you trade futures, not contributors.

I don't see the point of Breaking up either of the projected top two lines and giving up McNabb/pysyk and a first for a RW we don't really need. Stafford has chemistry with Ennis and what's the point of paying that much to push Pominville down the depth chart?
