When the lockout ended it allowed the Sabres to send down Pardy which immediately improved the Amerks defense. Other than that, I'm not sure about the effect that the end of the lockout had.

AHL caliber players don't need to face top NHL prospects anymore. Take the 2 best players (for argument sake) off each AHL roster and the deeper teams get instantly more competitive. Also a lot of AHLers are stuck there because of foot speed and I'd assume the league got much slower post lockout.

Leggio's grandmother passed away and he'll be on bereavement leave for Tuesday's game; Lieuwen recalled and Knapp to start:

On #Amerks injury front: RW Evan Rankin has a bone bruise, but no break, in right ankle. Will not go to Abbotsford. The hope: Feb. 12 at LE.

McNabb has been better. He's had five assists in his last two games, has been steadier on the back end, and has had a couple scraps since the lockout ended. He's getting there. I'd like to see more open ice hitting, but that's because I enjoy it!

Pysyk has been steady. He had a nice goal on the rush last week against the Baby Pens. Nothing stands out too much, but he seems to be developing as an all-around defenseman quite fine.

I'm still not impressed with Adam. He's been back at center on the second line and still seems slow and lazy at times. At best, he's perfectly ordinary. He was over a point per game as an AHL rookie, and now he's putting up .5 per game.

Assuming the Amerks make the playoffs and the Sabres do not--I know I'm not exactly going out on a limb here--the Amerks could have a pretty intriguing playoff lineup. Hodgson would still be waiver-exempt, I believe (still on ELC and <160 NHL games). Grigorenko and Foligno could be sent to Rochester. Armia may come over from Europe. There'd be a lot of competition for ice time and even to get into the lineup.

I wouldn't expect Hodgson to come down in that case, but Foligno yes. Grigorenko and Armia could make it real interesting.

I wouldn't necessarily, either, especially if he continues producing the way he has. But you never know, he may ask for it because he feels a connection to the team with which he started the season or because he simply wants to play more--of course, Darcy and crew will have the final say on that. Regier could really do right by a lot of people if he sends Hodgson back.

So with Pardy recalled to the Sabres does that mean Matt MacKenzie will make his long-awaited (re-)debut?

So you think we'll get Finley back? Visnovsky may make his Islander's debut on thursday. The Islanders already have 8 D on the roster. Whose the odd man out? Hickey, Finley? Finley hasn't played in over a week after starting the first 4.

I think Martinek was just placed on IR, which figures. He may eventually come back. Mackenzie will play. He should be playing over Leduc anyway, but he has to hit his quota on ice time.

From what I read Martinek on IR makes room for Bailey (F) to come back on the roster from injury.

Question for you since I haven't watched the last two games. Leduc +3 in two February games. Playing better?

Knapp about to drop to 1-6. He's just not very good at this point. He needs ECHL time. Lieuwen should stay up.

Cody Hodgson is not going to ASK to go back to the AHL under any circumstances. It's completely absurd to think that he would.

Regier MIGHT chose to do so if the Sabres have no shot, but he certainly won't ASK for it.

Fully agree, Lieuwen can't do any worse than Knapp.

We also went 0-8 on the PP today though, you have to capitalize on those opportunities.

I agree as well. Let's see what Lieuwen can do and at the same time get Knapp some ice time.

If Leggio doesn't make it to Abbottsford tomorrow, Lieuwen better get the start.

Leggio plays tonight and, surprise, the Amerks are a different team. Up 5-2. There's no doubt the Amerks have no confidence in Knapp and alter the way they play with him in net.

It's absurd to think he'd want to help out the Amerks after the Sabres are done? Hyperbole much? Plenty of guys want to play meaningful hockey rather than going home to start their offseason training.

Hyperbole? Ok.

The guy will have just completed a compressed 48 game schedule in the NHL. The Amerks will have already started their first playoff series. He also played 83 games last season between the Canucks and Sabres.

The guy would probably like a break. If he gets assigned, he'll go. But he won't ask for it.

Of course, this is all moot as Hodgson will win the Smythe.

Considering he was a big part of the team, I think he should be assigned if the opportunity is there. Why not? Playoff experience is never a bad thing, and him and Foligno with Armia could really give the Amerks some serious talent. That's a lineup that could make a long run. Regier should do it, probably won't do it.
