Same thing was said when Kesler was offer sheeted. The Flyers are big boys. They can play the game any way people want.

If it's like all paid out in the first 5 years or half in the first 2, can't match that, too risky.

Of course Gillis would decline it, why would he trade his starting goalie for someone who isn't even in the nhl

I didn't see this one coming. As for this, I think that David Poile may have no choice BUT to match.

If Nashville matches they can't trade him for 12 months... so Weber can't complain...

If preds lose their twin towers this summer, fans will be calling for ownerships head.

How can you possibly lose 2 top 5 dmen in the NHl on your roster

Why wouldn't he? Unless he badly wants to stay a Flyer, might as well get the most you can. And good chance the Flyers match anyway with only a 1+3 for compensation.

Ya, it all comes down to money. And Weber made sure he'd be rich regardless of who he plays for and what the new CBA says. Smart move by him.

This move is great. Either Weber stays a Pred and none of our rivals get him or he becomes a Flyer and they’ll have a no. 1 dman. Nashville could also do a lot with 2 first rounders for the next few years.

It’s awesome cause now it’s just Nashville and Philly. None of you other guys. Holmgren just told 28 other team to “suck his salty balls.”

This was never adressed. What people talked about was matching and trading. But not trading for the matching rights.

But can they if this deal goes through? Could they afford to pay Weber this money and match an offer of similar value to Giroux - all while staying cap compliant?

I think NSH has to match no matter what.

The fan base will be crushed if Weber is lost for 4 low first round picks. Not good for marketing your franchise by losing a player like this.

NHL will never agree to this sort of contract... On top, Flyers are giving NHL the middle finger just before CBA contracts are done. Trying to play around the system will likely get you fined plus giving up a first rounder

If I was a Nashville fan i'd be furious... defense goes from one of the strongest in the NHL to one of the weakest in the course of 2 weeks.
