14 years? Please get a new CBA already. Maybe a strike is needed.

The risk that Weber takes with this is that when Nashville matches, he will have to play out the season next year there AND he runs the risk of being dealt to anywhere they want that might not be a place he wants to be at...maybe a place like the Islanders.

Do we even know that Weber wanted to leave Nashville? I think he just wanted to get paid and Nashville wasn't giving him what he wanted.

Poile is one happy man right now, someone was dumb enough to offer sheet Weber and negotiate a contract for him. Watch Preds match the offer and lock up Weber for life.

There's zero chance of that now.

He's a Pred for life or at the least for many more years.

Nashville will easily match, I don't even know why this is debatable.

Well no you can't... as there's this thing about matching... and Nashville has more cap space and less money committed than any team in the NHL right now. Their problem has been, all along, signing Weber long term... which he has been refusing to do.

Now Nashville has the opportunity to do what they have been trying to do for 2+ years: sign Weber long-term.

What shocks me is that it was just handed to them. Weber in 12 months would be completely free and the offers would have been basically the same to sign him...
He could pull a Rick Nash and demand to be traded after one year if he deems the team cannot compete for the SC.

Especially considering how weak the D was due to injury. Adding Weber, Grossmann, and Schenn squashes any issues that might arise next season.

If the rumors are true there's zero chance Nashville shells out $26M for one year of Weber then trades him to Vancouver. They'd need both Sedins, Linden's retired jersey, Bure's skates, and Harols Snepsts to even consider it.

Lots of tears and sour grapes here. I'm not visiting this site for a month if Nashville doesn't sign.

I might be able to stomach that if I'm making ~15 million a year.

If Weber really wanted to choose where he went he wouldn't have signed this offer sheet.

Anyone think of the possibility that a part of Holmgren's "poison pill" is offering Weber a full NMC, and not realizing Nashville doesn't have to match that part. Would not be the first time that Holmgren blatantly misunderstood part of the CBA.

Either we get him, or no one else but Nashville does. I'm okay with this.

Holmgren has and never will care what the league thinks of him. If he has a chance to make his team better he will do it.
As I mentioned earlier, Holmgren knows the Flyers dont have the player assets to accomidate the Preds in a trade for Weber. He knows that the Rangers, Pens ect do. So its either Weber is a Flyer or a Predator.if this contract comes with a full NTC(something Holmgren loves to give out btw) then Weber can dictate where he goes next offseason.
I like the move.

In a way yes. But if Nashville gives him the money and it was really all about money then I see no reason why he isn't happy staying there.

Aggressive move by the Flyers. They do need to make some other changes to fit him in so.

Most expensive D in the league.
Expect Rangers and Pens to go out and make moves themselves now.

The problem is not Weber's.

What Nashville is doing: Makes sense

What Weber is doing: Makes sense (New CBA might limit contracts... thus 14 years + crazy money = financial win)

What the Flyers are doing (to me): Makes no sense

Yeah, Nashville isn't going to pay Weber 26 million only to trade him the very next year.

He is either going to be a Pred for life or a Flyer for the next 4 years.

true, but he wouldnt have an NTC, so he could be traded quite easily to the highest bidder.
