Washington would match anything that wouldn't give them cap problems, I'm betting. Alzner-Carlson was a heck of a pairing last year. I think it will be one of the better pairings in the league in a year or two.
Yea but the caps dont have 30 million in space like the preds.
Gms were saying Carlson has big time norris potential. It just wouldnt surprise me to see that as a plan B.
This may also be why Semin has yet to sign. Caps may need this space to match an offersheet from another team.
What exactly do you think they are going to offer Carlson? The GDP of Canada? It's going to take a lot more than what they even offered Weber for the Caps to not be able to match it.
Leonsis would match in about a minute flat. The one thing the team has is ample cap space.
There is zero chance the team doesn't match, and an excellent chance they'd file it away and offer sheet a player on the team in question within the next couple of years as payback. Both teams end up with overpaid players.
You only try an offer sheet if you really believe the other team won't match, because there is always the reciprocity problem: You try to screw them, they'll try to screw you. Everyone ends up screwed and no one switches teams. Well, the players make out like bandits.

Are you insane?

That's ridiculous. You think Washington would match a contract that offered Carlson -more- than Weber? You're either vastly overestimating Carlson's worth, or severely underestimating just how much cash Weber is going to be making.

Hes important to the caps but im wondering if they would pay him more than Green? Another desperate team who failed to get the big fish may throw a high salary deal with tons of term. GmGm doesnt like to gamble and may take the picks.

Able and will are two different things. What makes you think the Flyers will even offer a contract that ridiculous to begin with?
Offer sheets aren't exactly a big threat for teams with cap space and aren't cash-strapped. GMGM isn't exactly afraid of overpaying his own draft picks in both money and term.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that players comming off an entry level contract can't be signed to an offer sheet.
That's only in very specific cases (I don't know what the specific criteria are, but as far as I know Jack Johnson is the only recent RFA to be put in that position of being an RFA without the right to sign anything).
well...i guess this is david poile's thanks for all the help the preditors provided the flyers over the past few years. poile is a far brighter and more cunning player than holmgren and i'd bet homer rues the day he stuck a knife in poile's back.
