Time to send an offersheet to Jakub Voracek. 2 years, $8M? Now THAT is a predatory offersheet

Interesting to hear the rumours of DET, SJS and NYR also heavily persuing Weber. Nothing about VAN. Seems like MG didn't even consider the offersheet route.
He may have considered the offer sheet route, just not the trade route. I don't think we have a lot of expendable assets that would appeal to Nashville.

Oh yeah, and if Nashville doesn't match, it's going to be funny reading people's excuses for Pekka Rinne's bad season next year. No Weber and no Suter = Pekka Rinne's 2.85GAA.

All in all, not a good summer. I don't think the Luongo deal is going to make it any better either.

Hope this deal gets rejected by the NHL but if not then Holmgren is an idiot. Screwed himself out of ever getting Weber and of course any other team. NSH matches though the 26M in one year is concerning.

I'd be down, if we miss on Doan. What's Philly's cap structure if Weber signs?

What's so funny about it? You've already explained it.

when you get into offer sheets and 25 million/year deals, those decisions are made at the ownership level... this is likely more about ed snider than paul holmgren, and any canucks offer sheet would've had to have been an acquilini decision as well

gillis is not afraid to offer sheet players (he was ahead of the curve on david backes) but it amazes me how many are quick to pile on considering the unprecedented (and perhaps illegal) nature of this contract

I think they'd have around $500k left. They'd likely dump a defenseman like Nicklas Grossman. There's also the possibility that Chris Pronger ends up on LTIR in which case they'd be fine. But boy are the Flyers ****ed hard if the cap goes down to say...$58M without salary rollbacks.

More likely I suspect you'll see Jacques Lemaire crying tears of joy as Trotz uses his tactics to compensate for the big drop off in talent.

I personally hope the Canucks were in on negotiating with Weber's agent and were at least close to signing Weber. If Gillis wasn't prepared to give up the draft picks, I question his reasoning on that. If it came down to ownership being unprepared to take on that kind of contract, I say buy another slum to rent to the plebes, Aquaman- and commit to a franchise number 1 Dman.

It's funny because apparently Rinne is without question a top 3 goalie. We'll see...

Maybe Gillis tried but couldn't negotiate Weber down to fit under the Bieksa cap?

Well when Hal Gill and Roman Josi become Nashville's top defensemen they'll have to do something. Ouch.

He's only 22, and he's put up decent ES numbers, which is even more impressive once you see how old he was in those seasons.

It's arguable that he's already a 2nd line player now, and he isn't near his full ceiling yet.

Awesome development. Philadelphia is getting stuff done! This is a reckless offer, pure awesomeness.

What it might mean is that the season is certain to be lost. Then you could offer whatever pie in the sky number you want for next season, knowing it won't be played.

I hope Nashville doesn't match. Because that would put Philly in cap hell.

I'm not condemning Gillis. It was just an observation.

Also, I wanted to comment about a post you made last thread. Beyond securing dollar value in NSH, or looking to cash in elsewhere, there's also the fact that the CBA is being re-worked and he may have wanted to secure a contract before that time.
