10 games starts the contract, 40 games is the absolute limit he can still be returned to juniors.

Yes 10 games starts the contract, but 40 games starts the UFA clock.

I would have to think they want his contract staggered at least a year or two, since they have about six guys turning pro this year. So I'd expect < 10 games if any. Still would be surprised if he makes it past camp.

Brodin gets games before Dumba does, and I doubt we'll have both playing at the same time.

Depending on his camp i can see him get 9 games, however he will have to in those 9 games show he is an absolute lock as a t4, i really doubt GMCF and company would play him 3rd pairing over letting him go back to juniors and being the guy for his team and WJC.

i thought they would sign him on his BDay to make it a bit more special tho.

still pretty good year tho.

I was happy to see him drafted and I'm even happier to see him signed. Give him some preseason time and maybe even a few games in the regular season.

To all those saying; "Give him some regular season games..."

Where?

Who do you bump from the roster to keep him here for 9 games?

Brodin is closer, and I don't think he will see any regular season games, which is really too bad...

Stiffler will clear waivers no problem.

If it were me, there's no chance I let Dumba get an actual NHL game. Just doesn't play an NHL caliber game right now. Sure, give him a preseason game or two (if there is a preseason) but an NHL game? No way.

Yeah it wouldn't make a lot of sense to put him in now. Let him get 1-2 preseason games and hang with the team through camp, then send him back with some protein shakes.

They might also have signed him now so he gets his bonus (right?), maybe a reward for working hard last week in prospect camp?

Damn TP we are on the same page

And then what about Stoner? Falk?

Send Scandella or Spurgeon down for 9 games instead? (waiver exempt)

I just don't see it.

We have too many 1-ways in our D for a prospect that is not NHL ready to get a regular season game. His game is really rough right now and I'd be fine sending him back to Red Deer right away, Houston right away the following year (or even two) and then calling him up when it is time to replace Gilbert.

Edit: Remember, the points we get in the first 9 games are JUST as important as the points we get in the last 9 games...
Edit 2: Plus, Brodin is WAY more NHL ready *right* now...

Suter-Spurgeon
Scandella-Gilbert
Stoner-Falk
Stiffler

Not sure why anyone else besides Stiffler would be sent down to give Dumba 9 games if he earns them. That's the key in this anyway...he has to show he deserves 9 games first.

He is a pleasure to watch and im really looking forward to see his development and bulking in the future... But as some people here are saying.. He is behind Brodin and i would rather see him own the ice in Red Deer ..

Also Schultz was a second round pick who played 3 years of college.

I'm surprised Dumba signed only because he turns 18 next week and it makes things easier once he's legally an adult.

Wouldn't have mattered. Dumba was drafted out of the CHL, Minnesota had to sign him before 2014.

Now that I think of it...we'd likely carry 8 D if Dumba gets a 9 game look...Veilleux would be sent down.
