Good price, but I like our goaltending prospects enough to pass. Scrivens is a capable NHL backup if that's what it comes to.

No from the Leafs. As others have said the value is fair but this just doesn't fill a need for us.
Right now he would be third on our depth chart with multiple other young guys pushing up behind him.

Deal!

Is he on a 1 way or 2 way contract?

I would still want the Leafs to go out and acquire a #1 goalie, but I would still do this deal, especially if he is on a 2 way contract.

Karlsson might end up being a backup goalie, but he still has potential/upside so we could let him develop some more and then trade him and get a better return then we gave up for him, or he does have starter upside, maybe down the road he might be a starter for us.

I think it would be close between him and Scrivens.

He's on a 1 way.

Karlsson could be a starter, but it would need to be with an organization that has the flexibility to be patient enough with him to get there. He is definitely an excellent team guy! His kung fu moves are legendary.

Even if he has a 1 way contract, I would still do this. We can acquire him, and then send him down to the Marlies before the season starts right? That way he doesn't have to go through waivers?

I would still want us to acquire a proven #1 goalie though, so:

#1 goalie
Reimer

I think Karlsson does have the upside to be a starter, so we could let him develop for a year with the Marlies and then either re sign him and re evaluate our goaltending situation next off season, or trade him and get a better return then what we gave up for him.

Karlsson isn't really a prospect. He's somewhere in his late 20s. He played in the Swedish Elite League for quite a while.

For me Karlsson = Gustavsson. The Leafs already unloaded Gustavsson so why would they want Karlsson?

I'd do this. We don't really need Karl even though he's a good goalie. Would rather give Irving the backup job and see more of what we have in him.
