Ling and the Leafs just played thing one out as much as they could so Rocky wound up getting suspended. Ling was the one that went at Rocky first trying to take his knee out. I don't blame Rocky one bit for trying to defend himself.
Pathetic.

i agree with this. it was blown way out of proportion just because the game was on tv. it really was no big deal. and ling really played it up, but that's ling. that's what he does. i'm sure he's still laughing at rocky.

Rocky got hit in the knee. He was the one that wound up with an injury. He was defending himself. There was no need for Ling to go out of his way and hit Thompson like that. Especially late in a game where Edmonton is down and frustrated. That is asking for trouble. Plus Ling couldn't have picked a worse guy to hit at the time. He should know Rocky isn't going to let that go un-noticed...

Ling hit was dirty, i think the intent was to injury Rocky's knee
Thompson got what he deserve in the end
Ling could have got a game for the hit (he's been know to do that hit) but didn't

edit: added intent to ling's hit

So will you lose respect for all wiplash victims that say they suffer headaches?

No, he retaliated... Thompson didn't do anything to Ling before the moment of impact, he went up to him afterwards and punched him.

There is no way the Thompson hit on Ling comes even close to what Bertuzzi did to Moore.

Bertuzzi is a criminal. Rocky Thompson's just a goon. Big difference.

Oh god. I should've expected some sort of response like this. And I did. If you actually buy Ling's act then I'll stop right there because I have nothing else to say.

Thompson didn't do anything on impact because he got hit in the knee, got twisted up, and fell on the ice. What the hell is he supposed to do at that point?

No, I don't buy Ling's act, of course he was fine, it just sounds like you're writing this headache garbage off because he was hit in the neck, when impact on one's neck can result in headaches.

You're right, he most likely wasn't able to do anything... but going up to someone after the incident has happened and then punching them makes it retalitory not defensive. Havlat's crosscheck on Recchi before Recchi could check him, defense, Thompson's punch to Ling's neck after he was hit at the knees, retaliation.

he wasn't defending himself because he wasn't under any threat at that point. there was nothing to protect himself from.

he was getting even. retaliating.

not that i am blaming rocky. ling deserved a smack after what he did. ling knew exactly what he was doing and he knew rocky wouldn't take it lying down.

I was just quoting what Rocky said. He mentioned how he knew it was ******** because he hit him in the neck and Ling was laughing and talking it up to Rocky while he was on the ice. So obviously he was just playing innocent to get Rocky in trouble.

I understand your point. But either way I don't blame Rocky for going after him. I already listed examples as to why. Regardless if it was retaliation or not, Rocky was defending himself. Nobody wants to get their knee taken out. Including Rocky Thompson.

I just look at it differently. You can call it retaliation, (which it is) but I look at it as defending himself. After an incident like that Rocky has to do something. That is his game. That is how he plays the game. He isn't going to let something let that be forgotten.

There's a lot more than two of us. If it bothers you that much then don't bother posting here because you aren't adding anything to the topic at hand. Thanks...

Well that is a very good reason to keep posting here. If I bother you that much, there's always the ignore list...

However, freedom to express your opinions means also that you have to deal with the responses created by your expressed opinions.

As for retaliation, it is unacceptable. Self-defence I can understand, but this was clearly not a case of that, no matter how you twist it.

Blah blah blah....

People like you just get annoying. Instead of trying to debate or discuss the matter at hand in a mature manner, you have to go out of your way to throw around insults and try and turn threads into stupid pissing matches. If you don't agree with my opinion fine. Maybe that ignore feature will come in handy after all. Thanks for the tip....

I don't think you are nuts. I just have a strongly opposing opinion on this matter. However, I did not insult you at any point.

Well to me that is insulting. If it wasn't intended to be that way, fine. But that is how I took it.

I admit that my initial comment was not a particularly good one. I should have written 'I am glad most people here think differently' or something similar.
