Jones and Petrell for me are the most underrated.

Jones really contributed while playing his role well. And Petrell brought as much physicality and played his game very well. Nice player to have on the 4th line.

HM to Nick Schultz.

Pettrell did his job fairly well but I can't really say he's underrated.

I still think there could be better 4th line players than him, I'd like a little more nasty and a little more offense from him.

I bet you were thrilled when Renney tried to make him the next Alex Burrows and play him on the first line with RNH and Eberle.

The depth shows it's weakness when Jones gets top 6 minutes.
This was the only season in Prust's career where he has been more than a 11th/12th forward. Plus, the Rangers were in desperate need of some toughness, thats the only reason he got third line minutes. Mark my words, he'll be playing fourth line minutes in Montreal. If he didn't play so damn hard he wouldn't be in the NHL. Jones is better in almost every way.

I agree that Jones shouldn't be in the top six, but he should be on a team over Prust 8 times out of 10, and the only reason one should take Prust is if they need a guy who can take a faceoff.

It's very much a "what have you done for me lately" world.

If a player has a crappy year people start to think they are less "good" than they actually are. Belanger is a good example. Do you really think most Oilers fans right now consider him as a rock solid defensive player with excellent faceoff skills who can contribute some solid offense as well?

I'd say right now most rate him as a good faceoff man... end of story.

That's why I think he's underrated right now from comments I've read on the boards about him. I think many people would take a 3rd or 4th round pick for him in a trade and be happy with Lander or Pitlick in that 4th line centre spot as his replacement. I think that's underrating what Belanger brings to the roster.

I see your point but underrated/overrated is a fluid assessment and will change over time and I do think it has a lot to do with how they've performed recently and whether they are underperforming or outperforming what's expected of them.

Our entire 2nd last place team is underrated. I dont think there is very much hype on anyone in our entire roster other than jordan eberle througout the NHL. Seeing as how most will still not compare Eberle to the rest of the leauges best players I am going to say Eberle because that is where I feel he belongs.

Hemsky, he could be a PPG player this year if he has the right line mates and stays healthy.

In terms of point production, I think in the long run it'll be RNH, Hall, then Eberle. Yakupov hasn't played in the NHL but I think he could slot in before or after Hall.

I agree that Hall does affect our game. He's the heart of the team and the true face of the franchise to me. The Oilers are not going to trade him.

Nick Schultz. Guy is a solid defender and was arguably Minnesota's top defenceman. Will play a lot of hard minutes this year.

I like this post... the day of the trade I was flabbergasted but when I look at our projected D next year I like it more and more.

Prust is much harder to play against. Jones might score more goals, but Prust punishes the opposition all the time.

The trade looks quite good after the J. Schultz signing. Petry, Gilbert, J. Schultz and Whitney are all offensive minded players, N. Schultz helps to round out the lineup quite a bit.

Hopefully this year Edmonton ditches the "worst d" in the league stigma. On paper it looks pretty good.

RNH. I know we appreciate him tons, but I don't think people realize just how special he is.

Yeah. He's definitely one of those "see no evil, hear no evil" type of players. I just looked at some previous stats of his, and it looks like he take very few penalties as well. Pretty much under 50 PIM per year.

Like posters were saying when we got him, if he goes unnoticed, he's doing his job well.

I totally forgot we had him on the team to be honest.

Yakupov.

I see predictions he might score 40 points by some. 50 by most.

I think he scores 40 goals. He's likely the best of our 4.

Yup I agree. The underrating of Yakupov lately is nothing less than criminal.
