Jvr - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Grabovski - Kulemin
Kadri - Mcclement - Frattin
Komarov - Steckel - Brown

Phaneuf - Volchenkov
Gardiner - Gunnarsson
Holzer - Franson

Luongo
Reimer

Mac+Ashton for Volchenkov
Connolly+Lombardi++ for Luongo.

3rd line is a not defensive minded as Carlyle would like. I like that each pairing has a defensive and offensive defenseman which increases mobility and cover each others faults. I don't think this roster reaches playoffs; I think this team would end up anywhere between 8th to 11th spot.

First call ups: Kadri, Frattin.

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Franson

After looking at this, trying to flip Mac for a shutdown d-man like Murray would work

Steckel's face-off percentage last year was 58.0%, and at one point it was above 60% until he suffered a hand injury that made his percentage drop. While McClement's face-off percentage was 51.3% last year. Which was also below Bozak's 52.7% and Grabovski's 51.5%.

The advantages of McClement playing centre would be that he is a better skater and better defensively than Steckel, and a centre is more responsible for the defensive side of the games than the wingers are.
Steckel takes the faceoffs, McClement plays center.

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel
Jvr - Grabo - Connolly
Kulemin - Bozak/Stek - Frattin
Komarov - Mclement - Brown
Stekel

Decent top 6 offensive lines, with a reliable bottom 6 for the first time in forever, which will help boost Reimer's stats in a defensive system.

Mac traded for prospect/Pic
Connolly traded at deadline and Frattin moves up / Aston moves up.
Lombardi offed for a bottom 6 prospect with size, and potential.

Lupul-Colborne-Kessel
JVR-Grabovski-Kulemin
Frattin-Connolly-Kadri <------ Really would love this Line
Komarov-Mcclement/Steckle-Brown
Ex.Rosehill

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Gardiner-Liles
Franson-Holzer/Komisarek

Trade Bozak+MacArthur+2nd for Luongo

Luongo
Reimer

I designed this team to have speed, chemistry and offense oriented WITH 3 of the 4 lines having at least 1 defensively responsible player(the exception being the top line). The reason I went with that model is that I think a goalie like Luongo suits that style of game better than defensive minded teams, he always needs to see rubber. Kinda like the 'new age' Devils of this past year, as long as our players buy into Carlye's system of simpilar defensive plays there should be no reason they sacrifice their offence

Lupul, JVR, Bozak, Kessel, Kulemin, MacArthur, Grabovski, Connolly, Lombardi, Kadri, Frattin, Brown, McClement, Steckel, Komarov, Orr.

That's 16. With Colborne, D'Amigo and Ashton pushing for spots as well. Something has gotta give!

Edit - Forgot JVR originally.

I think our best centre should play with our best wingers, everyone wants to see a defensively responsible center for Kessel/Lupul, we have one who can handle top competition very well. This gives Connolly a more natural spot in the 2 spot instead of yoyoing back and forth between 1st and 3rd lines.

Bozak and Mclement could be interchanged, depends how good Mclement is. Im assuming Macarther, Komisarek, Lombardi are all traded or a healthy scratch.

Colborne gets called up when there are injuries. I'm hoping that Kadri gets much stronger during training. Otherwise, put JVR in the first line and Kadri second line.

Colborne and Ashton gets called up when there are injuries. Yes, I put Kessel on the second line. I don't think he needs too many minutes because he had a bad +/- ratio.

We traded Rielly+D'Amigo+7th rounder for Yakupov. I like to have a young 1st overall in our lineup. I added Yakupov because he's sick.

Lupul - JVR - Kessel
Frattin - Bozak - Kadri (2nd scoring line)
Connolly - Grabo - Kulemin (shutdown line, more minutes than 2nd)
Steckel -McClement - Brown
Komarov/Lombo/Enforcer Scratched

Gunner - Phaneuf
Franson - Gardiner
Liles - Holzer/Komi

Some Goalie/Reimer

Mac and other assets moved for some superstar goalie in trade Burke obviously wins due to his superb ability to persuade.

Why do so many people continually pencilling in Kadri and Frattin for the 3rd line especiall together. It's not going to happen with Carlyle. He'd put Connolly as a winger before them. Frattin probably will be a 3rd line winger but Kadri it's either top 6 or trade. You don't put rookies, especially non-defensive ones on your shutdown line. That's how you get a lottery pick.

Pure Fantasy Dream Lineup..

1) Trade McArthur + Franson for Dubinsky
(Rangers get scoring winger for lineup and young D with a cannon for a shot to help use or offset the lose of a young D in Nash/Ryan deal. Leafs get 2-way center with leadership qualities.)

2) Trade Lombardi + Lashoff + 4th rounder for Hjalmarsson. (cap hit is exactly the same)
(Chicago gets center depth who has great speed and could be a huge force if he returns to form. Leafs get top 2 pairing D who blocks shots, plays an aggressive game and can be a minute eater.)

3) Leafs sign UFA (AK46) to a 1-2 year deal.

4) Trade Connolly + komisarek + Kadri + Colbourne + D'Amigo + Blacker + Percy + 2014 3rd round pick and 2015 3rd round pick for Pekka Rinne. (This only happens cause Preds are forced to move Rinne after he demands trade due to them failing to keep both Suter and Weber and going into a huge rebuild again.)

Line 1) If they develop chemistry could be a great young line going forward.
(4.25)Joffery Lupul (6'1", 206 lbs. 28 yrs old, UFA in 2013-14)
(4.2)Brandon Dubinsky (6'1", 210 lbs. 26 yrs old, UFA in 2015-16)
(5.4)Phil Kessel (6'0", 202 lbs. 24 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(13.85)

Line 2) Great speed line with gritty scoring potential.
(4.25)James Van Riemsdyk (6'3" , 200 lbs. 23 yrs old, UFA in 2018-19)
(5.5)Mikhail Grabovski (5'11", 183 lbs. 28 yrs old, UFA in 2017-18)
(0.925)Matt Frattin (6'0" , 200 lbs. 24 yrs old, RFA in 2014-15)
(10.675)

Line 3) Solid Defensive line with scoring potential good speed and talent level.
(3.5)Andrei Kostitsyn (6'0", 214 lbs. 27 yrs old, UFA in either 2013-14, or 2014-15)
(1.5)Jay McClement (6'1", 205 lbs. 29 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(2.8)Nikolai Kulemin (6'1", 225 lbs. 26 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(7.8)

Line 4) Solid Energy Line will see regular shifts great checking line
(1.1)David Steckel (6'6", 215 lbs. 30 yrs old, UFA in 2013-14)
(1.5)Tyler Bozak (6'1", 195 lbs. 26 yrs old, UFA in 2013-14)
(0.737)Mike Brown (5'11", 205 lbs. 27 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(3.337)

(1.2)Leo Komarov (5'10" 182 lbs. 25 yrs old UFA in 2014-15)
(1.0) Colton Orr (6'3" 222 lbs. 30 yrs old UFA in 2013-14)
37.862

(6.5)Dion Phaneuf (6'3", 214 lbs. 27 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(1.325)Carl Gunnarsson (6'2", 196 lbs. 25 yrs old, RFA in 2013-14)
(3.875)John Mike Liles (5'10", 185 lbs. 31 yrs old, UFA in 2016-17)
(3.5)Niklas Hjalmarsson (6'3", 207 lbs. 25 yrs old, UFA in 2014-15)
(0.575) Korbinen Holzer (6'3", 205 lbs. 24 yrs old, RFA in 2013-14)
(1.117) Jake Gardiner (6'0", 184 lbs. 22 yrs old, RFA in 2014-15)
(16.892)

(1.8)James Reimer ( 24 yrs old, RFA in 2014-15)
(7) Pekka Rinne (29 yrs old, UFA in 2019-20)
(8.8)

So much Steckel hate, it's ridiculous. Guy's only one of the top faceoff guys in the league and had the most amount of hits on our team among forwards by a country mile.

Agreed. Bottom six is going to look like this...

Ideally:
Frattin McClement Kulemin
Connolly Steckel Brown

But likely:
Connolly McClement Kulemin
Lombardi Steckel Brown

Or even:
Lombardi McClement Connolly
Komarov Steckel Brown

ugh. this is a tough exercise. the addition of McClement and JVR make things really tricky in terms of what to do with Lombo, Connolly, Bozak, Kadri, and (regretfully) Mac. I wonder if Steckel will be on the move based on this log jam of forwards. Steckel is 6th best in the NHL in FO%. McClement is 44th, but he brings a lot more toughness and defensive poise.

Does anyone know if Lombardi and/or Connolly have no movement clauses in their contracts? Because if they don't, why doesn't Burke just move them to the Marlies to free up roster spots for more deserving players?

Very much agree with you here. To me it seemed like McClement would be more suited in the 4th line role, but it seems that Burke is penciling him in as the 3rd line C. Leaving the bottom six as:

xxxxx - McClement - xxxxx
xxxxx - Steckel - xxxxx

Too many forwards! Mainly, ship out Lombardi. Even then, we've still got Kadri, Connolly, Bozak, JVR, Grabovski, Steckel and McClement all getting a look at playing C.

Well here is mine i guess:

Lupal-Coborne-Kessel ( Lupal likes the left and had this arguement in Ana with Carlyle, plus he gels with Kessel, Colborne states he is ready and finally done with the growth spurts and healthy he impresses the coaches)
JVR-Grabo-Frattin ( JVR goes to the wing and Frattin gets a nice look at 2nd due to speed and his play to the net)
Kulemin-Bozak-Kadri ( another talented line to mess with opponents line match-ups, they prove to be a hand full for teams and impress)
Connolley-McClemment-Brown/Komarov ( otherwise known as the shutdown line and pk's)

Steckel is in the PB
Gunnerson-Phaneuf
Holzer-Gardiner
Franson/Liles-Sbisa (trade Mac and Lombo plus to Ana for Sbisa)
Komi eats popcorn another year watching from the PB

Reimer ( comes back in solid form and again the optimus prime we love)
Scivens solid as a back-up

Feel free to rip me a new one lol
