The Astros traded Brett Myers, and have named Francisco Cordero as his replacement in the closer's role.
Yeah.... have fun with that, Houston.
Oh man, I feel bad for Astros fans.

I believe there was an article out earlier and showing where JPA ranked defensively. He's been a bit better than last season where he was one of the worst defensive catchers.
And Morrow throwing pain free and if he throws pain free Tuesday will likely begin rehab.
So Lawrie coming back, Bautista making progress and Morrow showing positive signs in addition to our added pitching depth with our trade with Houston, Suddenly we look like we are starting to get some life again.

It's the best plan possible if you want to tank the rest of your season. If the Astros somehow manage to carry a lead into the ninth they have Cordero to rely on to ensure it's a loss.
Anyone expect anymore trades before the deadline or think this team will be staying pat?
Anything is possible. If the team keeps winning and closes the gap this week then I think its not out of the realm of possibility for us to acquire another bullpen arm.

I think it might depend where we are by the deadline. We won't be trading for a rental either and there aren't too many guys with control available.
They have to make a good run right now with the A's/Tigers/Mariners/A's again. This is where they've gotta win like 10 out of 13 and put together a good stretch.
The one tough part about the Jays schedule rest of the way is, they are going to face Yankees and Rays a combined 23 times and its going to be tough to win those games. They play Orioles and Red Sox a combined 12 times rest of the way. Right now is the easiest part of their upcoming schedule so they've gotta put a good run now.
It would be nice too if Morrow and Hutch can get healthy soon though Hutch is probably a September case at best.
If Snider can even only fullfill 80% of his potential this offense will be scary good for years.
If this team can go on a mini win streak before the trade deadline I would try to aquire Anibal Sanchez from Miami with the hopes we bring him in, he likes it here and he decides to resign in the offseason.

We could just wait till the offseason but AA has even said he likes the idea of bringing in a pending FA so both the team and player can get comfortable with each other.
Theres alot of quality arms that are going to be free agents.
Edwin Jackson, Anibal Sanchez, Colby Lewis, Brandon McCarthy, Francisco Liriano.
I hope we make a play for at least one of these guys.

Speaking of which, Edwin Jackson dumped Scott Boras as his agent yesterday.

Shaun Marcum is a good 2/3 pitcher with a history here.

Ya I totally forgot about him.
Will be interesting to see what AA does on the pitching front. Maybe he goes the same route WASH did last offseason and trades for a legit #2 and then signs a quality starter.
have to believe our bad SP will catch up to us. we won't to be able to keep out hitting our opponents, we will eventually need to win some close games and i'm not sure if this team can do that and i'm still pessimistic on us making the playoffs. however our strong BP is a plus though.
