Ha the Gomez saga! What to do? Once a really good player, winning Calder and 2 cups 32-33 year old player making boats load of money. Money aside, Gomez appears to be a great team guy...some one who wants to win. Just because everyone has written Gomez off, doesn't mean he is.
Solid answer from Bergevin in regards of Gomez...he part of the team was what he said.I have some hope here for some reason I can't explain.
just for fun, a line up with Gomez in and with these new UFAs.
MarkovSubban-Gorges in the top 4
Emelin has the potential to be a top 4 but seeing button pair on some night is not gonna hurt him.
Diaz/Weber/StDenis/Kaberle/Bouillon
Personally, not matter what we think about how bad Gomez is, I say our D looks pretty slime after those top3-4 and it scares me more then Gomez coming to camp. Was the biggest issue last year in terms of roster and this year looks no different.
The question are
can Gomez have a role on any team, money aside, ours for example?
can MT find the button that make Gomez go?
On a defensive line, can Gomez be good?If so, how good?
lets see how he looks in camp. we have the cap space, no one to sign (apparently)...any improvements would cost an arm or just aren't desirable according to our gm so no reason to handcuff ourselves with an ill-advised signing to bandaid gomez. Maybe he can up his value this year and we can get some kind of asset at the deadline? Its not doom and gloom for me.

If we hinder Lars Eller's development for Gomez, we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Or even leg.
Didnt we have a bunch of posters spewing statistics two years ago saying Gomez was just unlucky and he would revert to the mean.
Then last year he continued his crappy play and they made excuses like injury and other things.
Now for the third year, people believe he should get another chance. Really he should do Montreal a favor and retire simply for making us endure the waste of space he has been for two years in a row already.
The 10.7 in cap space that gave the Habs less than 80 games and less than 20 points last season is going to be MUCH better next year.
Gomez is neither blocking any one bursting to make the top 12 roster, nor blocking them from signing some great free agent either.
I sincerely doubt they send Gomez down so that instead of playing a year in the AHL getting big minutes a probably not ready Leblanc can get top 9 minutes in the NHL.

Made excuses?
The guy was injured for half of the season, on a team that was terrible offensively.
We gave gomer enough chance !
Putting aside the money, he could only be in the third line, since he doesn't score, he can't be in the first two lines, and since he doesn't agitate, he can't be in the 4th line..
It will be better to bury him with the bulldogs.
But I don't think it's going to happen, so let's try him in the third line for some games, if he does nothing, I don't know what to say
I really like our bottom 6 but I do think we need one more talented guy who can produce something in the offensive zone. If we don't aquire someone else, Gomez could be the only option. If it's the case, give him a chance and hope for the best.
he has looked horribly out of shape the last few years. maybe tv ads ten pounds but i dont think its a coincidence.
Its an excuse especially when he was healthy, he was completely ineffective. Dont act like he played well when he played cause he didnt.
and crazy as this is, its a huge fault of his the team is horrible offensively. You know, he was supposed to be a number one playmaking center, right?
Yeah...he was never a number 1 playmaking center though. He had a big season in the huge PP post lock out season and then was overpaid after a slightly decent follow up season to that one.
Hopefully his being out of shape is rectified this year, the fact is that Gomez could give this team some offence and since there aren't 10 great goal scoring wingers out there clamouring to play with the Habs playing him to start the year is far from the worst idea ever.
Maybe Palushaj takes his spot from him 10 games in. Who knows. Gomez is still young enough that it wouldn't shock me if he had one or 2 more 50ish point seasons. In the right situation he could excel. He'll never be a top line centerman because he never was one.
We don't have much of a choice of letting him play. MB and higher ups get to make that decision. We just have to deal with it...
The fans will show management what to do with Gomez if they don't send him to Hamilton... MB will learn the Mtl market the hard way if he doesn't do what's necessary and it won't be pretty.
If Gomez is the reason why we haven't signed free agents like Jagr or Jokinen... then Molson is really a cheap ass owner.
Please, I refrain myself toward Gomez because people who are defending him are dillusionnal and I thought his days were numbered... if it isn't the case, I'll get really mad.
