I'm disappointed that the Bears lost but they played very well given their circumstances. You take that Hershey team for a whole year and they could have done some damage. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Really surprised that only Wilson and Crabb were recalled. Maybe a few others will be recalled for the "Black Aces" skates in the next few days.

Question for Royals fans. How much are ticket prices for the playoff games. Really contemplating driving up to the Monday night game.

HB ticket prices for the playoffs are anywhere between $12 - $30 if ya look on the Royals website. This is a tough series and I believe whoever wins this series has a real good shot at winning the championship. The Soverign Center is a nice place to watch a game, just about any seat is decent to see the game... Here thier website:

Also, there is a $5 off playoff ticket coupon in the Reading Eagle newspaper almost every day. Stop at a Wawa or Sheetz when you get close and check the sports section.

I think the prices are supposed to go up a dollar or two for the finals, if the Royals get past Cincinnati.

edit: I would not suggest wasting your money on ticketmaster fees to buy tickets in advance for this series. There should be good seats available at the door for Mon/Tues (if needed).

Reading has home ice advantage, yes. Not sure what the distribution is.

If the Caps fire French (and I believe they will) who do they bring in as a coach? I really hope it isn't Larry Courville.

Well I guess it all comes down to what happens in Washington in the offseason. If McPhee gets fired (doubt it but one can hope), then the new GM may want to bring in a new minor league coaching staff. If McPhee is still here and he does fire French, My guess would be that Troy Mann would get the promotion to head coach. Troy has been a blessing for the Bears and has done great with the recent defensive prospects and the Bears penalty kill.

I agree that Mann would be a good choice, especially since he has HC experience in the ECHL. I just really hope it isn't Courville. Reading was stacked this year and I am not sold on him yet as a big time coach.

Yeah just saw that. It's a shame, I actually liked French. I just don't think that he and Oates got along and that probably played a part in it. It did not work out well with them co-coaching this year.

I really hope they don't give Courville the job, just don't buy into him and don't think he is ready. Mann would be a good choice. Also maybe someone like former Hershey Bear Cail MaClean who was a HC in South Carolina and has been an AHL assistant. Although he might be an NHL assistant now that I think about it.

But I wouldn't be suprised if Oates doesn't have some say. Maybe someone from his staff in Washington?

Or some other former Capital who is working through the coaching pipelines.

Like Oates' former teammate, Seattle Thunderbirds' coach Steve Konowalchuk?

Someone on another board noted that Euro contracts come with out clauses, but I thin they may only apply to NHL deals. That said, I'll miss Taffe, but won't even notice Sjogren's gone. The guy did little of note in his parts of two seasons.

Yeah, I saw the same thing. Taffe would be a loss for sure. Surprised you don't miss Sjogren more since he's next in line for the C when Ovechkin is stripped.

Anyone have any info on him and his coaching abilities?

Edit: Preliminary research does not look good. .340 winning percentage in the regular season his first two seasons. I would really hope he isn't given the job

I'm gonna predict that if McPhee is heavily involved in the decision process, it's Haviland (though part of me expects him to bring in Evason).

There are some big (or formerly big) AHL names that would be seemingly attainable:

Haviland, Gulutzan, Cunneyworth, Kleindenorst

Courville and Mann do seem real possibilities. Bednar's also out there with organizational ties.

Gulutzan, Cunneyworth, and Kleindenorst are very intriguing. Gulutzan coached against Hershey in the 09-10 Calder Cup final. He fits the Hershey pedigree for winning by only missing the playoffs once in the minors and twice with the Dallas Stars. I wouldn't mind seeing an experienced head coach behind the bench for next season and I wouldn't be upset if Mann or Bednar got the job. I'm kinda ehh on Courville.

If Mann doesn't get the head coaching job, I really hope he sticks around as an assistant

I think in the CHL, record doesn't really define coaching abilities because the level of teams varies drastically. If you don't have the stars, you're not gonna win, it's that simple.
You have the attractive franchise, good scouts and high draft picks, you are gonna win. Looking at the T-Birds roster, the only big name in those two years is Shea Theodore, and he's yet to be drafted in the NHL. Compare it, for example, to their divisional rival Portland Winterhawks, who have Leipsic, Petan, Jones and Pouliot.
A year ago, Seattle's roster was even worse. Aside from Marcel Noebels, who was traded mid-season, nobody came even close to PPG in a big sample size.

If Mann (my personal first choice) doesn't get it, I'd be real intrigued by Haviland. He had a good record when he was with Norfolk, and a number of his guys from that time are still in the NHL today. He was also a less than calm type on the bench, which a lot of Bears fans seem to think translates into coaching ability (I like that aspect for its entertainment calue).
