If you fix the way the cap is calculated, or some minor fixes to eliminate tailing off contracts, that offer sheet won't be such a poison pill.

Anyhow, we shall see how poisonous Nashville finds that contract. If they can find a way to get through the 1st 12 months, they will have a hell of a contract on their hands.

No, they won't. For players in their primes, maybe, but the rest will balance it out. You won't get the 40 year old Lacavaliers and Richard's with $7-8M cap hits.

I say if it is a 5 year deal it will be around the 43 million mark.
If that were the case, I'd look to trade his ass at the deadline. There's no way I give him Sidney Crosby money. He is an elite offensive forward... but until he becomes more responsible defensively and doesn't look like he takes some shifts off, there's no way I could justify spending that much on him.

When Phil's current contract is up, how much does he get if he stays with the Leafs? How much does he get if he tests the market?

I say if he stays with the Leafs he could get something like 5 year / 35 million. Or higher depending on the CBA.

If he goes to UFA, I can only imagine what some teams would pay for him.. I think we could see some ridiculous contracts..
He'll be overpaid with Nash type of dollars.

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 196364, 196667 and 196970 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 197071 and 197273. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 197071, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.
