I'm cool with it (used to have a couple pretty strong sources of my own about 4-5 years back, especially on the contract front) and while HF is somewhat strict about it, veteran posters that have a history of credibility are given some leeway until things start getting into the excessive/outlandish and it's at the discretion of the local mods if you're not running around the main board and trade boards claiming to be some uber-insider.

Btw. The Canes can easily afford a $6 mil mistake on a 1 year contract. Plus a 1 year contract on a proven scorer is easy to move. So the most you can make is $3 mil mistake +/-

What about those of us who are, in fact, uber-insiders with excessive amounts of outlandish gossip that totally checks out?

It's not so much that you hang out with the team or in the lockerroom. It's more about establishing respectable contacts, who in turn may bring you to more respectable contacts and building a network from there. You'd be surprised how many players/coaches/etc open up as long as it's "off the record".

Sports reporting would be really boring if all that was reported was stuff that the players allowed to be "on the record". There are ways to get that "off the record" info on the record, and as long as the players aren't linked to said info by name, they usually don't care.

Which is why the Bradley comments were a really big deal, at least IMO. Not many players are willing to put themselves out like that.

I found this gem on the main board. I spit coffee all over my monitor

The inevitable reaction in New York after the trade:

The thread on the main board is expanding faster than the speed of light, so I was unable to locate the link again, but someone posted that Doan was gonna sign with NYR today as well.

3 of 4 right is pretty solid.

How does this stack up to the Rangers' deadline offer?

Look on the bright side. The sooner the Rangers win the cup, the sooner Marc Staal will want to come join his brothers in Carolina.

weaker. IIRC the deadline offer included MDZ and one of Kreider or Miller instead of Erixon and Anisimov. Miller's probably the weakest possible piece of the trades, but the Jackets lose out big time IMO. Howson's gotta go.

Indeed

Marc will just be like, Well I'm done. Time to join Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Carolina.
