Franzen to Pittsburgh

What sort of return would Detroit be looking for?

Letang's obviously not going anywhere.

Franzen is worth a first or a 2nd and decent prospect.

But I don't see Detorit moving him for futures. They would demand a top 4 puck moving D man and a pick/prospect probably.

If I am sending Franzen + 1st to Pitt I would want Orpik + Dumoulin. Probably need to add a prospect to send to Pitt too though.

No sense in trading our best winger away and leaving a bigger hole up front unless we completely lock doen our D for years to come.

I would've packaged up Franzen ++ for Staal though.

Come on, the guy's still a 30 goal scorer and good for 60 points. Deserves more than a 1st. How about Franzen + 1st for....

Paul Martin?

We have no need for the 1st, although it's a nice asset. Right now, a near NHL-ready Dumoulin is more valuable to us, particularly if we were to deal Orpik.

Dealing Orpik or Martin is more difficult now that Michalek is gone.

A deal involving Franzen/Martin makes sense for both teams. Detroit needs a top 4 D man who can play big minutes and pens have a surpuls of D with Despres, doulimin, morrow close to making that jump. Plus franzen fills the winger for crosby at a decent cap hit

I honestly don't see a deal making sense for either team. It's not like the Wings have a ton of guys on the wing and while the Pens are looking for a wing, I don't think many Pens fans are very high on Franzen.

I'd be willing to do Paul Martin and a 2nd maybe, but I doubt Detroit would bite.

Will have to be a really decent plus because morrow will be a stud in the NHL. Kid looks like he could be a 50+ point OFD who pens cant afford to give up due to Letang possibly walking in 2 years.

Not all that keen on giving up a first rounder in this year's draft.

Cleary?

Totally disagree. Letang's favorite team growing up was the Penguins and he's been very happy in Pittsburgh so far from all accounts I've heard. I'd be really surprised to see him go. I also don't think Morrow is going to be that fantastic. I think he'll be good, but not good enough to replace Letang.

That's a good point. What if it was Franzen + Ouellet/Jurco? Could that fetch Orpik + Morrow/Despres? Trust me I understand that dealing defenseman like that is not easy for the Pens, but at this moment the Wings can't afford to deal Franzen or Filppula without something like that in return. Quite the pickle.

Franzen + Jurco for Orpik + Morrow?

Morrow's really not up for grabs. He's our future PP QB.

Not interested in Letang anyways. If Detroit's gonna pick up somebody it needs to be a defensive defender. (Which probably doesn't make sense that I asked for Morrow, but I was tossing a name out)

No sense in trading for Letang, or Green, or Yandle, as everybody seems to want to do, when Smith has likely finished his AHL career.

Pens really have no need for cleary since they have enough bottom 6 guys. I think franzen/martin being the main pieces makes the most sense.

Actually now that I am reminded of the length of his contract, I don't think I want Franzen at any price. I could totally see him crapping out in two or 3 years just based on the way he plays the game. I don't want my team hamstrung by that contract for the next 8 years.

Nah, Morrow and Despres are non-starters considering the heft of Franzen's contract.

Something like Franzen + Ouellet for Orpik and a 2013 2nd could be workable.

50+ point OFD..while he's still in the WHL. Can we calm down with the wild projections until he actually proves something in pro hockey? I understand that he's a top prospect..but jeez.

I wouldn't do Franzen for Morrow straight up. We need a more surefire asset back in order to justify the huge hole that this trade would make in our top 6 (which is already pretty bad)

Well its not a 35+ contract so even if he craps out he would either retire from injuries or get traded for scraps. Its not like he would be on their cap hit. Hard to find 25-30 goal scorers for under 4 million

That contract would easily be buried in the minors and he would retire at 35 anyways if he was actually that bad. Franzen's contract would be the last of any big market teams worries.
