Minnesota - Chicago

Do you think a deal around something like this could work?

Michael Frolik, RW
Adam Clendening, D
3rd Round Draft Pick, 2013

Niklas Backstrom, G
Matt Cullen, C

Minnesota recently re-signed goaltender Josh Harding, and this could clear some cap space to possibly sign another UFA to add to their roster.

Chicago would be happy to acquire a number one goaltender of Backstrom's caliber. He has shown he can play the chunk of a season and play well.

I'm a Hawks fan and have no problem seeing how terribly lopsided that is in favor of Chicago. Wild don't even go near that trade.

Wow, it seems I have underestimated Backstrom's value. Am I the only one who thinks he won't get much on the market? Considering goalies usually don't get much.

He's still their #1 and they're going for the playoffs I would think

Well, really really good goalies don't get traded too often

I only think Backstrom being dealt is a possibility because Minnesota also have a promising young goalie in Matt Hackett and still chose to re-sign Josh Harding for three more years.

I guess they might be able to get something a bit better than this, but I don't think they will get a lot.

I think you undervalued Backstrom and overvalued Frolik in this scenario.

Minny runs with Backstrom and Harding in tandem until Hackett's ready. Moreover, Cullen finishes his career as a Wild.

Backstrom isn't going anywhere. Maybe if we're not in a playoff position come deadline, then we may consider moving him.

Cullen with a limited NTC. He doesn't want to leave his home and it was openly stated Backstrom won't be traded.

This pretty much ends the thread. Not to mention the value is awful.

Only problem is that Minnesota wants no part of it.

Hawks don't have a 3rd next year. Take out Cullen and that pick and I'd be all over this deal

Throw in Koivu and maybe the Hawks consider it. They need a 2nd line center right?

Minnesota says no... they won't trade Backstrom, they can't trade Cullen, and they have no room for someone like Frolik... The Wild already have more than enough forwards as it is... even if they did manage to trade one away.

Just because we CAN do it, doesn't mean we should.

Yes, we can survive with Harding and Hackett, but if we want a better chance for the playoffs, Backstrom and Harding is the duo we want.

Meaning, if trading Backstrom means not getting his full 1-year value of #1 goaltending minutes, then we'll gladly pass.

The benefits of keeping Backstrom outweighs the benefits of trading him for less his value to the Wild.

If Backstrom was ever to be traded to Chicago this year, Crawford is coming back.

No move for Bäckström and Cullen..

If they could move, Salak instead of Frolik and Leddy instead of Clendening and the fans are sold to waiting a bit more.

Frolik was a healthy scratch during the final stretch of the season and his production has dropped each season. I can't imagine he has any value.

MN can just sign Salak. He's been released.
He didn't want to play in the minors. It was NHL or Europe.

He does have potential, Quenneville just seems to not like him. Each of the last two years he was very good in the playoffs. He became snake-bitten last year over about a 10 game stretch (like a lot of players do), but after that he didn't get beyond the 4th line until the playoffs. I think he could be good, but given his lack of production over the last couple years as well as a not so friendly cap hit, he probably does have basically no trade value.

We don't want to trade away Backs and Cullen nor do we want any of those 3 pieces in this trade coming our way. No way.
