I think Bobby Ryan stays in Anaheim because nobody offers up the players that the Ducks want to move him.

Philly is moving Couturier or B Schenn and that's who Philly will want back.

Rumblings that Semin to Carolina is close:

SovSport report that #Canes will announce the signing of Semin within the next hour. Believed to be a 1y deal with higher $ than last year.

no one will give him the big massive long term deal

he gets another chance to try and earn one in the NHL, while leaving the KHL option on the table in his future

Yeah I'm not really surprised. This way the team in question isn't taking much risk, and it keeps Semin motivated to keep his future in the NHL.

How does them signing Semin have anything to do with what line they'll play the Staals on?

Staal-Staal-Semin isn't a bad PP line. This doesn't fix Carolina's ills though.

Staal signed to play with his brother and get more top 6 ice time, they already have Sutter for the third line, and Semin is a scoring center. That means that one of the Staals is likely going to play wing, so it makes sense to have the Staals on one line.

Staal - Staal
Semin
Sutter

*shrug*

Whoa, Rutherford cloned Sutter before he traded him? I know he and Darcy are close, maybe we can get another 1st for Gaustad?

Oh, and supposedly they want to move Eric to the wing.

Yep, keyboard in mouth, Semin is definitely a winger. For some reason, I always confuse him as playing center.

Really? Semin is a winger, and they traded Sutter in the deal for J. Staal.

maybe he meant Brody Sutter?

It doesn't make sense to split up the Staals during even strength unless they add another center.

Hurricanes overpaid but it should give them two good scoring lines now.

But you were 100% right for making me laugh.

Sometimes I wish I didn't feel like such a geek for knowing (almost) every detail of NHL rosters and contracts. One day I might have a better life and mess stuff up like that.

It'd be pretty sweet to see the Canes dress Semin and an opposing team's player as 2 of their top 3 centers.

Unbelievable. Guess that pretty much cinches that, if Doan doesn't sign with Phoenix, someone is going to give him $7.5M.

They acted quickly to re-sign all of their UFAs (Jokinen, Ruutu, Gleason). They made the big commitment to land Staal. They were in the rumor mill for Nash, Parise, Suter and Doan - so I'm not shocked at them committing to a quick fix like Semin to add further immediate reinforcements. The distance between them winning a Cup 6 years ago and contending in the East has been growing with every non-playoff finish since. In a non-traditional hockey market and economic times being what they are for all sports fans, that's a slippery slope to continue.

I'm hoping Holmgren decides to throw a Pronger like contract at Doan.

Not necessarily. Semin got $7 mill because he signed a one-year contract. Doan will sign a multi-year offer, which should translate to a lesser cap hit than Semin's. Bear in mind that I'm ignoring the Sabres' alleged 4/30 offer because Doan isn't even taking them seriously. Hence the lack of a visit.
