In the least shocking news of the day, Gomez and Redden cleared waivers and should be bought out.

Did Connolly play at all during the lockout? Knowing his worth ethic and lifestyle..I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in terrible shape.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

Tweets I read mentioned he didn't have a good training camp.

Gotta think Columbus is putting in a waiver claim for Connolly. My is they came to him about a team on his no trade list (or not on his approved list), he said 'hell no'.

Interesting. Seems like he wasn't playing anywhere during the lockout despite playing last season in the KHL.

Maybe, maybe not. Timmy doesn't strike me as a John Davidson type of player--and let's hope Davidson has oversight on Howson's decisions--and they're trying to mold themselves into a young, hardworking team with guys like Dubi, Anisimov, N. Foligno, et al.

Connolly strikes me as the kind of guy a team like Calgary would pursue. They're always in pursuit of names, and perpetually trying to sneak into the playoffs. They'd have to buy out a player (Stajan?), but they can make room.

I also wonder if Dallas would take a flyer on him. Their owner wants to spend some money, and they're currently locked in a contract battle with Benn. Plus, reuniting Roy and Connolly would cause this board to explode.

If Connollys cap hit was 2.5 instead of 4.75 I'm sure there would be several teams putting in a claim. But he makes far too much for his production the last few years. Peter Schaefer ruined a promising career.

Well he had a contract with Atlant Moscow that was supposed to last through the end of this season, but they released him from it because he was so terrible.

I'm really surprised he managed to get a contract since his play over the last two seasons pointed to him being finished.

Pretty sure injuries ruined Tim Connolly's career more than anything. The rest is guesswork.

Hmmm. Columbus is probably right up Connolly's ally. Not speaking for the fans, but there doesn't seem to be high expectations for a playoff push. The national media barely scratches Columbus hockey. No pressure + No expectations = Tim Connolly's ideal team?

Schaefer was the one who concussed Connolly in the 06 playoffs with a flying elbow. Sure, Connolly had injuries prior to that but that particular injury perpetuated his downfall.

Sorry, I didn't recall the name and assumed it was the Islanders coach

There are rumours out there Connolly will be claimed by the Islanders... nothing official coming until noon.
Thank goodness I'm not an Isles fan!

reporterchris Tim Connolly will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies. Dave Nonis is not pursuing a trade option for him at this time.

If he's still there on 2/1, he'll be on TV vs. the Amerks.

If I had to guess one of the 3 guys they claimed on defense this week will be sent down when Vishnovsky decides to play. My money would be on Finley

Buccigross picks the Sabres to win the Eastern Conference and Miller to win the Vezina. Other than him, the Sabres were shutout.
