Is 2013-14 the year the Sabres need to target as best chance for a Cup?

I think Pominville and Foligno re-sign early in negotiating sessions, and ultimately positives and negatives are weighed with both Vanek and Miller.
  • Has enough young talent matured to make Vanek expendable? What are his contract demands? Does a new contract for him throw off salary structure down the road?
  • How does Miller perform in 2013? What is his attitude toward playing in Buffalo beyond that?
  • What is the new CBA like?
  • What other options are there in goal? Is Enroth ready? Free agent stopgap?

I compare the 2012-13 team to the 2003-2004 team. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003%E2..._Sabres_season

A lot of guys hadn't broken out yet on that team either. 05-06 was the real breakout season. I even think 2012-13 team has a stronger foundation the 03-04. Miller,Vanek,Pominville,Myers,Erhoff,Stafford. In 2013-14 can Ennis be what Briere or Afinogenov was in 05-06? Can Hodgson be what Drury was in 05-06? Can Grigorenko be in 2013-14 what Roy was in 05-06? Can Armia be the in season addition Pominville was?

The 2013-14 team's chance of winning it all depends on the younger group coming of age much faster than normal. Grigorenko, Armia, Girgensons, McNabb and Pysyk will have to contribute while Ennis, Hodgson, Foligno & Myers will have to be stars or major contributors.

He should not be given another "franchise goalie" contract...

Also, there are a LOT of quality goaltenders available in 2013.

I'd give Al Montoya a nice 3 yr contract. He can split with Miller for a year, and then take over.

Greiss is another interesting target, along with
Along with...?
