Interesting Story about Bobby Ryan

It's an older article, but this is the first time I've come across it. Interesting read about Robert Shane Stevenson - the person we know as Bobby Ryan.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3782270

Didn't really have much of an opinion on Bobby Ryan before, but now have tons of respect for him.

Remember reading this years ago. Reason why he is one of my favorite players.

From what? He's always come off as one of the nicest guys in the NHL when I've seen him interviewed.

It's kind of a crazy story. Something you'd see in a movie.

Thought it was common knowledge by now but yup, tough story. I kind of hate when ppl call Ryan a baby now for asking for a trade(sorta). Guy just wants to be part of a team that believes in him. If that's Anaheim, perfect, just understanding the context is important. Nothing wrong with stability, especially after a childhood like that.

Wow...never read that before. Touching story...seems like I just read a script for a movie, not the story of someone's life. Even before reading this story, I've always been impressed with the way he carries himself. I'm sure he has his share of fun but he seems like a very put together guy. He's a bit on the quiet side, polite but he has a great sense of humour. I've heard he's been in a steady relationship for a while now and despite living in the OC and having every opportunity to try and live like a rockstar, the guy packs his things up and spends his off season at his home in Boise, Idaho. Says a great deal about his character that he could have gone on the wayside and blamed it on a tough childhood but instead he turned those hardships into life lessons and used it to motivate himself.

His story is a reason why it kills me that he's sad that he's always the guy Bob Murray is putting on the table to improve the Ducks. That and I believe in his potential. And he's a great guy despite his rough past. I still believe he'll be the Ducks captain one day. He's got the charisma, and the talent, but just not the seniority.

I remember seeing a thread about it but didn't read it, or forgot it. Pretty crazy.

I'm pretty sure Burke maintained that Bobby still gave him the best prospect interview he's ever seen. I could've swore I saw it somewhere a few years ago too.

Who knows though after what he said about Reilly.

Ducks fans, even after his "trade request", love Bobby and feel for him. He has never really got a fair shake in Anaheim, and he certainly deserves one.

I hope the Ducks keep him, he is a huge asset and an excellent person and player.

With the way he's been treated, I have no qualms with him getting frustrated and speaking out.

This story only further shows his class and quality as a person.

I had the privilege of meeting Melody, his mom. Have never met a nicer person. It's a very unique and sad story, and I've always thought his upbringing could make a good movie. Maybe if he's a HOFer one day.

Hey what's the story behind him earning the number 9?

Ducks rookies wear high numbers and once the solidify their spot in the lineup they usually get their number changed to a lower one. He liked 9 because of Modano.

How exactly has he never gotten a fair shake? He's been given plenty of opportunity here and has taken advantage of it for the most part. It's just unfortunate for him that he has to compete with Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne for PP minutes.

His twitter comments made him seem like a *****... And I really don't like the Ducks or Burke type players.... Or Burke...

And I figured there was a reason the Ducks were very open to trading Ryan..

Updated story

His Mom and Dad are apparently back together with court permission this time.

I am normally not a fan of domestic violence victims returning to mate but this does appear on the surface to be a one time event.
