Thought it was common knowledge by now but yup, tough story. I kind of hate when ppl call Ryan a baby now for asking for a trade(sorta). Guy just wants to be part of a team that believes in him. If that's Anaheim, perfect, just understanding the context is important. Nothing wrong with stability, especially after a childhood like that.
Wow...never read that before. Touching story...seems like I just read a script for a movie, not the story of someone's life. Even before reading this story, I've always been impressed with the way he carries himself. I'm sure he has his share of fun but he seems like a very put together guy. He's a bit on the quiet side, polite but he has a great sense of humour. I've heard he's been in a steady relationship for a while now and despite living in the OC and having every opportunity to try and live like a rockstar, the guy packs his things up and spends his off season at his home in Boise, Idaho. Says a great deal about his character that he could have gone on the wayside and blamed it on a tough childhood but instead he turned those hardships into life lessons and used it to motivate himself.
His story is a reason why it kills me that he's sad that he's always the guy Bob Murray is putting on the table to improve the Ducks. That and I believe in his potential. And he's a great guy despite his rough past. I still believe he'll be the Ducks captain one day. He's got the charisma, and the talent, but just not the seniority.
I remember someone posted that story here a couple years ago. Crazy stuff.

I had the privilege of meeting Melody, his mom. Have never met a nicer person. It's a very unique and sad story, and I've always thought his upbringing could make a good movie. Maybe if he's a HOFer one day.
Ducks fans, even after his "trade request", love Bobby and feel for him. He has never really got a fair shake in Anaheim, and he certainly deserves one.
How exactly has he never gotten a fair shake? He's been given plenty of opportunity here and has taken advantage of it for the most part. It's just unfortunate for him that he has to compete with Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne for PP minutes.
