WILL Dan Boyle get traded?

Two questions for you guys/girls.

Do you think DW will trade him?

Do you think he should be traded? If yes, please explain. I don't know why some of you think he should be traded.

I say no to both questions. DW knows that he is the quarterback of this team and the biggest leader on defense. I think its best that he stays here until he retires and mentors Burns to be like him and fulfill his role and be better than he is when he was younger and well even in these past few seasons.

I voted for the last option because it would have to be a damn good offer for DW to trade him.

I don't think DW would easily let go of the "intensity" that he said this team needed to get back to. Boyle's had some lapses, but he has some hardcore drive. I only see Boyle moving if DW gets something downright nasty in return.

If you go by his word, he won't be traded because his D is set. If he knew what was good for him and the franchise, he would deal Boyle because unless this team makes a big splash in free agency or the trade market, they aren't Cup caliber and Boyle doesn't have much time left before his value plummets from a trade perspective.

Burns doesn't play his game. And, Boyle does not have the trademark leavings of a mentor (partners who have gone on to do as well or better than the mentor and at least not getting worse). You do get his intensity which can be a positive or a negative (it isn't all one-sided as some would have it) and you get an elite PPQB. He is a playoff warrior as well.

Another downside of having him is having a coaching staff that feels compelled to play him defensively against top matchups, including PK. That is asking more of him than that of which he is capable of doing well.

My take is that if they match last year's team at the deadline that this is the year to get a return on his services for the future of the team before his value drops.

He won't get traded this off season, he's he cornerstone of the PP and has lots og gas left in his tank. I'd hope he'd get fewer minutes with Stewart on this team.

Depends. I'd be fine with trading him if Suter or Carle were signed.

There are definitely drawbacks to trading Dan Boyle but the question is pretty simple. Are we a Cup contender in the two years left on his contract? Nothing about the off-season thus far and the looming lockout on the horizon leads me to believe that next year is the Sharks' year. And another year after that means another year where the team's core that is needed to be the best players is another year arguably past their prime.

if Suter goes to DW and says "I want to play in San Jose and retire as a Shark. Make it happen," then DW has no choice but to deal one of the big salaries, which is Boyle in all likelihood

any other case, though, I don't think he should really be moved unless it's a no-brainer type offer

Yes we are a cup contender the next 2 years - at least that is what the owners and GM claim. The season hasn't started yet, we are 2 really good wingers away from being a contender at this time with the UFA market opening up in less than 23 hours.

Carle would replace Demers and Braun not Boyle.

And that's where I disagree. We are two wingers, a bottom six, and a fix to a completely broken PK with coaches that have failed at it the last couple years away from being a contender. Solid defense at even strength but exploited regularly by speed teams. Solid power play but pretty much a one unit team that can be stopped.

Are those all separate things? After all, if we acquired two more wingers we'd automatically fix our bottom-six and likely our PK as well. The PK can be fixed if the coaches just change the strategy.

Have I missed something? I know I don't follow the Sharks news as much as I used to but trading Boyle seems to have come out of the blue to me. Based on what evidence? Just that other teams want him?

Guy is a staple on our team. Trading him makes us worse now, so why would Wilson do it?

I like this line! I would almost rather have these 3 as line 1, then our actual first line.

I agree. Boyle totally holds this team together and in my opinion he's definitely still got it. Last season he put up 50 pts and this season he put up 48 pts, and guess what that's more than what this apparent savior Ryan Suter put up last season 39 pts and this season 46 pts . No! That can't be!?

Now I know Ryant Suter will most likely improve but as long as Boyle has still got it, I say keep him. If his point totals were slowly declining, I'd say yeah...but I love his leadership, and defensive and offensive abilities too much to trade him. Like I said he holds this team together and leads a very young group of defensemen.

Selling Boyle at the TDL would be an excellent sell.
I mean look at what LA got for JJ. Boyle would return better assets.

That may be true. But someone better ready the bridge-watch patrols throughout California because if we're selling Boyle at the deadline, this team is in for a long hard rebuild, which won't end there.

That's a sad thought.

Fortunately I don't see it happening
