Just like how Vokoun wasn't a product of the Panthers' system

Versteeg was easily the worst player in that line. If you re-watch this season you'd know who made the plays. Because it sure wasn't Versteeg.

Really, so as a Tampa bay fan, you watched all 82 games? Get real, before his hip injury, he was one our go to scorers. He had 8 pp goals and 10 ppa. When he went down, our scoring went from average to below average.

You do realize Vojoun played for Nashville and was known as a great goalie then, right? Our system? What system is that??

Steeg was just as important as the others on that line. We're happy with him, and pretty much love that opposing fans aren't. Does it matter who was weak on a line anyway? He was much better before injury, that line was one of the best in hockey for the first couple months of the season, Versteeg was a huge impact player on that line.

I would argue that (before he got injured) Steeger was the most important guy on that line. He was our go-to guy for sure. 4.4 for him is very fair.

I like Steeger, always did but you won`t find many GMs who wouldn`t trade Versteeg for Oshie

I don't see anything that sets them so far apart that this statement is made so difinitively.

As a Panthers fan I'm very happy to have signed him before arbitration.. the hate towards him also excites me. Kris was fun to watch last year and I can't wait to see a few more years of it. This team is finally getting good. I love it.

Excellent deal for both Tallon and Versteeg. Getting ahead of myself but, I could see him and Bjugstad making a pretty good duo in a couple of years.

actually - versteeg was easily the BEST player on that line in the first half of the season (when the line was REALLY scoring at a dominant pace)

versteeg hurt his hip and began to struggle, and the line did as well. he took anti-inflammatory injections in the playoffs and seemed to grab a second wind - scoring 3 goals and 5 pts in the series.

maybe you should stick to watching the Lightning because you clearly haven't a clue when it comes to the other Floridian team.

Oshie is just a more complete player - a total wreckingball, physical, heart-and-soul type. Steeger ain't a softie by any stretch, but they're not comparable in that regard.

i think Versteeg's probably a bit better offensively, but I too would deal him for Oshie if that deal was on the table. I'd love to have Oshie. He's alot like Weiss, but physical on top of it.

Yeah... I didn't say that. Given their comparable stats, it make sense that they stand to earn around the same amount. But kudos to you - name calling is an awesome way to win a debate.

Oshie bring less offense but a more complete game. It's hardly worthy of the comment "lol more than Oshie", like TJ Oshie is Sidney Crosby. Of course, you choose to ignore Oshie's RFA status as a factor in his contract, and Versteeg's impending UFA status. Their contracts being similar, with Versteeg's being slightly higher, is 100% reasonable.

I do find it ironic that you're calling me out for "only" looking at stats, when all you did was look at cap hit.

One thing is definitely true though - both Oshie and Versteeg have great contracts for their respective teams.

Pretty much this. They really are pretty comparably valued players, imo.

I've also noticed that those calling Versteeg's contract bad still haven't found a comparable signing that shows this to be true. I'm with the Florida fans here who are saying "who needs facts?" Because those who don't like this contract clearly aren't interested in facts.

Indeed..still waiting to see which players that have scored 86 goals over the past 4 years are signed to a cap hit below 4.4. Production certainly isn't everything but the reality is that stats are the most objective analysis of a players ability and are going to play a major role in contract negotiations.

AND are willing to stay in a small market to win.

I live in a market that OVERPAYS players big time.
