From my perspective, NYR gave up assets they can live without. There's not one player in there that they gave up that they can't replace with either free agency or through their own development system.

Only risk is depth which means they are more vulnerable to injury. Still, this trade is very good for the Rangers.

If they have up MDZ or Kreider, I'd feel it was a bit more balanced.

Just awful. The Rangers offer at the deadline was way better than this.

Howson's only hope is that Erixon becomes a legit #1 d-man for many years, and a REALLY good one at that.

One thing people forget is the CBA is up. Yes the rangers have more space but what happens if they drop the cap and in 5 years the cap is at 60 million. Now they have over-aged players like Richards Nash Gaborik all holding on to cap just like Gomez is doing.

Alot of people see this as Burke is doing a bad job, the way i see it is he set this team up for a much longer period to work with the cap. Why have guys who are going to be good for only 3 years signed for 6-7

Now we'll finally get to see Nash play with good players. Think he can break 80 points or so with Richards.

I think Nash scores 35 goals, and around 75 points next year.

What a bad deal for CBJ. That return is like the equivalent of:

Kulemin
MacArthur
Blacker
1st

Richards makes the players around him better. Nash will have a much better season next year barring injury.

So the Rangers are built almost as well as any team could be to compete now but may be in trouble in a few years if the CBA changes , thats bad

The leafs are poorly built to compete now but are positioned well in the chance things change in the CBA , thats good

Leafs suck man its okay

The point is that the Leafs are not as screwed as people say. With the league proposing 5 year maximum on contracts, what are they going to do with the exsiting contracts

Maybe it will work out; I can't tell the future but this is either a home run or a shut out from the NYR's perspective.
Nash is overrated but he can still be a ppg player. A ppg powerforward. And I dont know about NY's logterm future, but for the next few years they are set up very nicely.

I don't know what people were expecting. I don't think we ever really see a high-end talent, who's known to be moving, go for an elite package of players. I mean, Nash has been out there for a while and has a short list of teams - the return wasn't going to be something greatly in favour of CBJ. I don't think CBJ did terrible either really. They have some good pieces if a few of those players live up to their potential.

Hopefully this breaks the ice on some other rumoured deals around the league.

league proposing does not equal forgone conclusion. PA will veto that again and again and again. If this is what the league is proposing (I haven't heard this anywhere), then get ready for a lockout gentlemen.

I expected that the Rangers would give up a player with high value and upside who could potentially equal that of Nash if everything went right. Kreider would be my first choice.

Really what NYR gave up were high quality spare parts, but nothing notable or memorable.

At the very least one of the players in the package would have to be something that gives Sather and the Rangers fans pause. I don't get that feeling here.
