Thats exactly my point. With a year off this hurts teams like NYR who have older players on long term deals, yet help teams like the Leafs and Edmonton who have young teams. A year for Rielly,Biggs,Ross etc without a NHL season would do wonders and not hurt them. plus Gardiner,Frattin,Kadri,Colbourne,Ashton all playing in the AHL would do nothing but help them, except maybe Gardiner.

But wait, we traded for a 3rd line winger making 4.25! Wait...he's gonna play center! Why all the hate?

And for him we traded a 3rd pairing defenseman making 3.5 mill. Keep things in context.

Yes because we needed higher priced 3rd line wingers? I get your point, however the context doesn't make it any better.

We didnt need higher priced 3rd pairing D either (hello komi, and liles second half).

We traded potential for potential and we traded from a positional strength for a positional need. No need to hate on a good hockey trade.

Get real. van Riemsdyk is easily a top 6 forward on our team and was playing on a stacked offense in Philly. He is talented.

Wow Howson waited this long to get a ****** return like this!? SERIOUSLY!?

Hahahaha. I feel bad for their fans...as overpaid as Rick Nash is... this is a steal and a half.

I'm sincere when I say I hope you are 100% right and I am 100% wrong, just don't see it that way.

Rangers get Nash and Doan
Flyers get Weber and Ryan
Penguins get Semin

First i wanna say i am a fan of the JVR trade... but could we have not kept Schenn, and traded for Nash? Assuming we were on the list we could have beaten that offer.

The fact is nobody thinks the Leafs were on Nash's list so theres not much point in debating what package could have gotten him.

I think the Leafs winning the Cup in the near future is pretty much impossible unless everything falls into place and they go on a run like the NJ Devils do..

The Atlantic and the Bruins pretty much rule the East.

Poor Tim Erixon, whines his way out of Calgary and ends up in Columbus.

Looks like this trade went through on Howsons clock.

Looks like Sather comes out ontop of this waiting game.

This package was offered at the trade deadline and Howson didn't bite.

Now that it has been completed, we'll see some more movement.

Its not a bad return for a team that had to move Nash, as they get their two Top 6 fowards who will be controllable for the next few seasons (pending Anisimov RFA status), they get Erixon who will be a candidate to make their blueline stronger next season, and a first rounder (to go with their other 2), giving them 3 1st in next seasons draft...which could be a very deep and talented one.

This is a move Columbus had to make, and getting Dubinsky in return was nice for them.

Having 3 first rounders next season, and young controllable and cheap assets in their cupboards is a must for this small market team.

I was just thinking that right now

Calgary seems like a much better destination in hindsight.

Weird if true, was he not a leaf fan growing up and from Toronto? Guess he wanted to go to a good team for a change

3/3 so far

This pretty much guarantees Semin to the Pens IMO.
Yup and then I see Ryan going to the Bruins.

I think its just because Toronto isn't yet a playoff team.

Van-Riemsdyk is not a 3rd line winger, you need a reality check.

He played with Giroux on the top line for a decent part of the Jersey series. You really think he's a 3rd liner for us?

Howson waited far too long to make this deal. It's clear he thought the deals would get better over time, but they did not.

I think Nash is very overrated, but this still isn't a good deal for Columbus at all.

Stekel played top line with Kessel for a few games - does that make him a 1C?
