Disagree. Anisimov's already an NHL 3rd liner with the skill to be more (whether he ever is more, is up in the air). Thomas and Miller's upside is that they "might" be able to develop into a comparable player to Anisimov. Anisimov already is what Thomas or Miller hope to be (and neither are sure things) and Anisimov has room to be more than either of those two could be (though I wouldn't bet on it).

You are right that Howson still got ripped off, though.

Outstanding work by Sather. He didn't give up anything that would have really stung. The first impression is that Columbus got hosed unless they get something special with the 1st.

I have to admit it made me laugh when I saw Tim Erixon included in the trade. Just deserts, I guess. Flames fans are allowed to gloat now. Enjoy!

Would have traded:

Mika Zibanejad
Mark Stone/Matt Puempel
Borowiecki
1st

Which would likely be an overpayment...

Can't wait. Only hope they have is Burke offering the farm to get him. Tallon will take Gillis to the cleaners.

It's actually a good return. Anisimov and Dubinsky are good players. Erixon is a top prospect and the 1st is in a deep draft.

Again, if Phoenix relocates?

The only reason Doan isn't signed already is because he wants to stay close to home and not relocate afterwards if PHX moves. So...in your scenario, the exact thing he's afraid of, doesn't happen. If that's the case, he'll sign in PHX. He's not waiting this long to field out better offers, his priority is PHX situation.

Also, not to be a ball buster but NYR and PHX reached same place last year. Sure, NYR loaded up, but PHX isn't a bad team either.

So who is the new GM of CBJ? One does not trade Rick Nash for peanuts and keep his job.

If I got this correctly
1) Rangers offered those four for Nash
2) CBJ said ok, this was the offer we waited for months
3) Rangers said that do you realize you go over 50 players roster limit?
4) Columbus said no, but we'll give you a minor-league d-man to even it out
5) Rangers responded that it will cost you a third rounder to do that
6) CBJ agreed to a trade

will nash flourish.... he is joining a team that is well known for having overpaid players that busted in the past.

will nash be one of them?

Personally I'd like to get rid of him before the season starts but I'd rather have him fighting for a number one spot then receive nothing for him trade wise

Props to Sather ... He probably knows Erixon will refuse to play for the Jackets, and demand a trade back to the Rangers where Sather will pay a fraction of the price since he has all the leverage

I'm really suprised Columbus couldn't get Del Zotto in this deal. He's a really nice player but I don't think the Rangers would hold up a trade for Nash because of him. Noones knows what happened, but the Jackets should have gotten an NHL ready Dman in the deal.

I'm kinda lost on what people were reasonably expecting Howson to do in this situation that would have been better than what he did.

He was called upon to trade a disgruntled "superstar" with a huge contract and a small list of destinations he'd accept. He got back a top-six center that put up almost the same number of points two seasons ago that Nash put up last season. He got back an up and coming center with top-six upside, good and proven durability, great size and skill. He got back a good offensive-D prospect who is ready to make the jump to help an NHL club and will get a good chance to contribute whereas staying in NY he would have had no chance to contribute. And he got a first round pick on top of all that.

I really don't see what more anyone reasonably expected Howson to do here. The Rangers were never trading Chris Kreider, ever. Derek Stepan would have tipped the scales and made this a horrible trade for the Rangers, and lets face it...they were in the driver's seat because Howson's player was the one demanding to be moved and held all the cards in his favor.

I don't know what everyone else is looking at...it's the best he could have been expected to do from my POV.
