Dany Hately (fify, amirite?)

A lot of rumor sites and people in the trade forums have mentioned Heatley like he is available..I realize he is a big cap hit at 7.5M and we are up against the cap now.

But still I feel it would be stupid to trade him right now even with that huge hit. He's great in the lockeroom from the sounds of it and I love his attitude he's had since coming here.

What does everyone think? Is he on the block and should we move him given his salary?? If so what do you think he's worth?

Unless we are getting a top six player(Younger/cheaper) that can "replace" him. I want to keep him. I'm expecting him to have a very good season now with Parise and hopefully with a healthy Koivu on his line.

Does he have only 1 year left on his deal?

I think he has a NTC....I don't think that Fletcher is actively shopping Heatley, in any case. If there was a trade that could improve the team AND Heatley was agreeable to it, I'm sure that it could happen.

But if I were a bettin' man, I'd say that Heatley sticks around...Which is just fine by me.

2 years.

Keep him. Re-sign him to a cheaper deal when his expires and stick him on the 3rd line.

I have visions of a Heatley - Brodziak - Bulmer 3rd line in the not-too-distant future.

Trading Heater would only be smart if we really need the cap for if we bring in someone like Ryan, which I just don't see happening.

I like Heater. He's great in the locker room, he helped up recruit Parise, and I can easily see him re-signing here for a pay cut after his current deal is up to make a few runs for the Cup.

He was one of the few guys who actually played the whole year last year and he was just about the only guy I can remember from last year who actually put effort into it night in and night out.

I do not want him traded.

No not at all it just sparked my interest into thinking about if he could get moved or not.

If you think about it in 2 years theres going to be 2-3 young players ready to move up to the NHL and play top 6 roles ala Coyle,Larsson,Zucker etc and if Heatley doesn't improve this year and is getting payed 7.5 Million to score 20 goals then I dont think it would be unreasonable to move him or want to move him if I'm Fletcher

Agreed I wouldn't move him either I just wanted to see what everyone thought.

No no no no no.

We wouldn't get a player as good as Heatley back in a deal. People who post these "rumors" don't know anything about the Wild, and are only doing it becase the Wild are currently close to the cap .

Heatley still isn't an old player. And with Koivu and Parise as linemates, I think he can hit 35 goals and 80 points.

With as instrumental as Heatley was in the recruitment process for Suter/Parise...

Wow... Trading him would be dumb.

Also...

If I remember correctly, Heatley's contract is structured in such a way that he always has a 10-day window in which he can be traded. If the GM wishes to trade him, he can request a 10 team list of "approved" teams (or the inverse 20 teams ruled out) under which the GM can talk to those ten teams.

The 10 day window starts at the draft and closes shortly after free agency.

The Wild were not on his exclusion list now that I'm thinking about it...

Havlat was asked to waive his NTC...

/shrug

He's not going anywhere. He helped us get Parise and Suter here, hes good in the locker room and he was our only top 6 healthy player last year

I want to say it starts July 1 because the Havlat deal was essentially agreed upon at the Draft and couldn't go through until later. Then again maybe it had more to do with Havlat's NTC.

No meaning for trading him now, very few players better than him.

We shouldn't trade Dany Heatley. I think he'll be good for 35-40 goals this season with the improved depth and skill.

Where would Clutterbuck go if not on the 3rd line

I don't remember the specific date, but I think you are right... Ottawa wanted to trade him before July 1st due to when his signing bonus kicked in. If he was traded before the window kicked in, the new team (sharks) would have been on the hook, while if it was after, Ottawa had to pay it.

Ottawa ended up having to pay that signing bonus, and San Jose just had his salary on the books.
