As a Pittsburgh fan, you should want Carlo playing for Philly. His D is horrendous.

Sad day when Cola one of the best options left. Your lucky to get 40 games of average play from the guy.

Honestly surprised noone signed these guys yet.

Kubina could be a good 3rd pair/ PP guy, he adds size and has a nice slap shot.

Hannan is a solid #5 defenseman who is good in the D zone. Same with Eaton.

What's the deal with Kubina?

I know he's not at all what he used to be as most of his offensive game has dried up, but isn't he still a solid d-man?

One guy that has kept my eye this offseason is, surprisingly, Brett Clark. I had no idea the guy was third in blocked shots last year. Not bad for a 35 year old defenseman.

Hannan should be signed before the season starts too. Not too old and is still a very good bottom-pairing guy for a team in need of one.

If you have to block shots, you or the team are doing something wrong on D. Most overrated aspect of defense is blocking shots. Take away the bulletproof armor and thats when you see how good a D-man really is.

Cam Barker will be in Europe next season.

Why in the world is Cam Barker still a FA? Sounds like GM's haven't heard of the Cam Barker Effect.

Some defensemen are very good at blocking shots and that aspect of their game helps them get paid. Think Z. Michalek, Girardi, Zanon, Gill, etc. These guys specialize in it. It's a very real part of the game.

Gill is huge, all he has to do is be near the net to get a blocked shot. None of those players have a cup besides Gill. Blocking shots is a huge risk as it can deflect a shot, hinder a goalies view, causes the player to be out of postion, or the risk of injury. If they have to resort to being shot blocking experts, they are usually lacking in the other departments.

Zanon is undersized and cant really do much in the crease. Does not do much offensively and is positionally alright.

Michalek just stands there in front of the goalie 80% of the time and lets opposing players park their butts in front of the goalie. A shutdown d-mans 2nd most important thing next to positioning is not give up the prime real estate easily. He looked rather unimpressive offensively last season aswell.

Girardi is good all around, so I guess blocking shots is a bonus with him until he gets a puck to the face.

Hanna deserves to get a contract. He was good for the Flames last year.

Scott Hannan should be the most viable option (assuming he can still play shutdown).

I love the Colaiacovo .gif, but it would be better to somehow add Darren Pang's laughter when he saw it on replay.

As a Blues fan, I hope Colaiacovo goes out East. I just don't like facing former players repeatedly on division rivals. Colaiacovo has had stretches of competent play. But when Pietro went down, he tried to do more and it was.....painful to watch. Lots of mistakes. But on a 2nd pairing for someone I think he could be OK if he has a defensively responsible partner. He could probably find work on someone's 2nd PP unit, too. Just not the Blues.

From what I saw of him with the Flyers he was keep on doing the same mistake of passing the puck without looking who was in from of him in his own defensive zone.
