The good news is that expectations can't get any lower for this roster.

It's really amazing to see that people are still buying into all of this ****. Burke's talked big since he got here about all these great signings he'd be making, these trades he would make to bolster weak positions. And he hasn't done anything that's made a positive difference to the Leafs on the ice.

Burke is loading up another bottom-five team. It's just maddening how he's standing pat, especially while the actual big players in the NHL are making serious moves. Nobody in the league outside of Columbus more desperately needs to overhaul the lineup, yet Burke is doubling down anyways, reupping the likes of Kulemin, signing Grabo to that crazy long-term deal, ditching Schenn for a reclamation project in JVR, bringing in a 13th forward like Komarov...

I haven't cared so little for the Leafs since the Tom Watt years.
You make a depressingly strong point

I think the Caps will win that division. I like Ottawa to make it again and possibly FLA to make the 7th or 8th. If the Leafs go into the season with their current roster......I dont think there is much chance at all that they make the post-season. Again.
So the Leafs play 60ish games of a season as a playoff team and as high as 5/6 seed around game 55-60.

Then they go on an unprecedented collapse which has rarely ever been seen before and finish 5th worst in the league and we are acting like 5th worst is a true representation?

Then we trade arguably our worst Dman last year for a forward with size and skill who will put up at least 55-60 points if he is healthy...

We have a core of players getting older and gaining experience and only 2 had career type years last year and both are likely to match if not improve.

We never ever had a solid #1 goalie after game 6 but we still managed to be in the playoffs for 60 games.

Our 25YO 25-30 goal scorer had 7 goals last year.

Our UFA signing (Connolly) had the worst statistical year of his career.

Grabo was average

We had 1/2 season of Liles due to concussion ( he was poor after that)

We played Lombardi who missed all of the last season and off-season.

We added a well known bottom 6 veteran C from Toronto.

Frattin was very insignificant but looks poised to be significant next year.

We have a highly skilled KAdri chomping at the bit to get his chance and stick.

We have a 22YO Gardiner who skates like the wind and WILL improve on last season.

Basically, we managed to be a playoff team for 60 games with a young team, No solid goaltending, and a group of players who underachieved.

Then we trade our worst D last year for a 55-60 point Forward at worst who brings size to our top 6.

With a young developing team why in the heck would any of these facts suggest the LEafs absolutely will not make the playoffs next year??

I love it, expectations and pressure are as low as ever. Add in the fact that all everyone remembers is that epic collapse at the end, not that great play up until then, with the fact that our AHL team full of prospects just made it to the Calder cup is being ignored, our new coach preaches strong defensive play, and the fact that Burke has not made any big signings, and you have a recipe for something we call a "pleasant surprise."

Bare with me folks, I know none of us are used to pleasant surprises in Leaf Nation, but this year is shaping up to be so.

I have very little confidence the team we have right now will make the playoffs..unless we get goaltending experience we're in for another bottom 5 finish. My opinion of course, I'm sure other fans see it differently.

Speaking of epic collapses, I'm glad Minnesota had a panic attack regarding theirs and went big, if only because it keeps those two out of the East.

You know what you call Leaf fans that predict a bottom 5 finish for their team?

A Leaf Realist, because drafting Morgan Rielly #5 overall confirms they were spot on with their analysis.

Burke better make the playoffs, or ownership is going to be seriously pissed off.

That said, Burke has tons of work to do to get this team in shape for a playoff run.

This offseason, he has yet to solidy #1C position, #1G position or bring in toughness and size.

This is the most plausible scenario presented so far. Book it, Dano.

I cannot predict where the Buds will end up next season. Way too many variables to make any kind of accurate prediction at this time. I think more trades will come before training camp starts and of course the old injury bug will occur for every team and this always makes things interesting. I hope they make the playoffs even if they squeeze in by the skin of thier teeth. Don't ever want this team to 'tank'.

The Leafs season again will come down to goaltending. With a legit #1 starter I would actually guarantee a playoff birth, but until then I just hope the players developed positively from last year and there are a few surprises.

The thing that is funny about some Leaf Fans is that prior to this year, each year people believed the 'real' Leafs team was the team that finished strongly down the final stretch; not the team that was terrible for 2/3 of the season. The following seasons always showed us that we were wrong, the season showed us that we were that terrible team that started the season. This year it is the opposite, the Leafs were GREAT(considering all the injuries/age) for 2/3 of the season and terrible down the stretch, now the world has collapsed(lol).

The Leafs will be fine, as long as their players continue to develop. A goalie tender like Luongo would do wonders for this franchise IMO, and I truly hope that he can be obtained.

When you rant that other people are delusional and biased... does it occur to you that you just wrote that a winger with a 40 point career high is a 60 point player and a defenseman who's more often than not played 20+ mins a game for you is your worst defenseman... that you are delusional and biased?

Improved special teams, steady goaltending, no collapse. More from Kulemin, TimmyC. Decent contributions from Lombardi and Kadri/Frattin. JVR proves valuable. Improve goals against. All within the realm of possibility. These things happen, I believe we make it, 6th-8th place.

Playoffs or bottom 5 please. Sean Monahan would look nice on this team if the latter happens.
