Wow Leafs fans are the best! I was stalking their trade forum and now they have convinced themselves there is no way they can even include Grabo in a trade for Getz. They think Bozak should be in there instead of him!

Man I hope Getz and Perry sign soon so these insane ideas will at least slow down a little.

Wait until the lockout hits and accusations start flying.

Actually I'm wondering what happens to a guy like Lindholm if there is no camp come Sep 15. If the season starts late is he even around to try and make the team or is he back in Sweden? I'm guessing Vatanen will stick somewhere in NA if the season starts late but I'm not so sure about Lindholm.

Thanks for the responses to my question. Funny how I notice after/around the time I asked about theor contract situation I notice how the trade board is a hot topic with the ducks top 3 players right after I appreciate getting serious replies and not viewed as trolling.

As for the ducks and player reps talking is their any indications of who the ducks feel theor priority shoukd be between perry and getzlaf? From the outside it seems to me that perry is the guy but maybe im biased since I see perry terrorizing the sharks which helps me appreciate his game a ton

They would never make something like that public even if they thought there was a clear cut priority. At this point in time the team wants to sign both equally as bad. Ultimately if the private talks indicate one is more likely to stay or go then they would likely put more focus on retaining the one they felt they had a better chance of keeping.

Perry looks to be the priority imo, although murray said signing both was. Murray admitted starting discussions with him while he said he'd start discussing it with Getzlaf shortly. IMO that clearly shows Perry is the first priority, although in reality, both are. It makes sense though. Chances of Getz leaving are low, but Perry is so quiet it's a little concerning, although he did tell Ryan he had every intention of staying a Duck before he signed a few years ago.

If I recall correctly, Murray stated that he had already begun talking with Getzlaf before and that's why he mentioned that he was starting talks with Perry and his agent.

If I'm choosing between the two, I'm taking Getzlaf first. Losing Perry sucks big time, but the same can be said for Getzlaf. On top of that, our organizational depth at center does look - to put it lightly - terrible right now.

I wish there was a 'block all proposals from Buffalo' option on this board. We hoped it would end after Roy was traded, but it has not.

Also, this blogger at HockeyBuzz is awful:

So then, which players do the Sabres offer back to Anaheim in exchange for Ryan?

Luke Adam is the second line centre that Murray covets. However, Vanek is a left winger, as is Ryan. Vanek-Getzlaf-Perry has a nice ring to it. I'm not a Vanek hater. I love his growth and development. Perhaps a change would do him some good. Murray has a helluva ticklish situation on his hands right now with Perry and Getzlaf set to become UFA 7/1/13. Perhaps playing with a complete player of Vanek's ilk would entice Perry and Getzlaf into signing extensions to stay in Mickey Mouse Land, rather than opting to test the UFA open market.

'Micky Mouse Land' Comes across as a bit of a **** with a statement like that

Buffalo is one of the last places I can think of that should be taking shots at other cities

Yeah of all the proposals this offseason I think the most garbage I've seen is from Sabre and Leaf fans.

If Murray was serious when he said he wanted to add size up front, then he wouldn't deal with the Sabres period.

Flyers fans hope they can land him for lesser parts, but they'll admit that Ryan will probably cost them Couturier or Schenn. I do think Leafs fans have a few reasonable guys that show up in those threads, which I haven't seen much of from Philly's fan base.

I want to continue the Cogliano discussion but in that thread about Lubo's trade.

Anyhow in regards to his contract I feel just like I did a year ago and that it's just right. He makes a little more than the average player in the league and I felt like he contributed nicely last season. He ranked fourth in goals, played every game, was a solid forecheck and even better penalty killer and he stayed out of the box. I was hoping he'd hit 15 goals at least but everyone's goal numbers were down last year so I won't hold that against him. He's got 20 goals in him though it'll probably only happen once or twice which is fine as long as he stays around 15 a year. If he's got a talented winger like Palmieri or later Etem on his line I can see his assists increasing quite a bit.

He only makes 550K more than Winnik and I'd says he brings a little more offense and some more intangibles to justify that. Sure he sucked at the dot but we knew that coming in and he was better on the wing anyway. Aside from his faceoff ability he's a Todd Marchant clone and that's good enough for me.

Cogs is ok if we had tough 3rd and 4th.lines but they are amongst the softest in the league
He needs to go if there a team willing to pick him up

Sabres proposals are the worst and most arrogant imo

Ok, I'll bite. Firstly in regards to Winnik, not only was Winnik an UFA but Winnik is also a lot better defensively, brings more size and while isn't exactly physical, is a lot better than Cogs along the boards and at handling the bigger defensemen in the NHL. In regards to Marchant, Cogs doesn't touch Todd defensively or in PKing ability. Offensively I think they're close although Marchant did have the one career year (20 goals, 60 points) and was consistently putting up 35-40 points in the dead puck era.

As for the contract, here are some RFA comparables:

Name Age Length Start Expiry Cap Hit % of Cap
Okposo, Kyle » 24 5 2011 2016 $2,800,000 4.35%
Couture, Logan » 23 2 2012 2014 $2,875,000 4.10%
Little, Bryan » 24 3 2010 2013 $2,383,333 4.01%
Kulemin, Nikolai » 26 2 2012 2014 $2,800,000 3.99%
Wheeler, Blake » 25 2 2011 2013 $2,550,000 3.97%
Nielsen, Frans » 28 4 2012 2016 $2,750,000 3.92%
Marchand, Brad » 24 2 2011 2013 $2,500,000 3.89%
Downie, Steve » 25 2 2012 2014 $2,650,000 3.77%
Cogliano, Andrew » 25 3 2011 2014 $2,390,000 3.72%
Purcell, Teddy » 26 2 2011 2013 $2,362,500 3.67%
Brouwer, Troy » 26 2 2011 2013 $2,350,000 3.65%
Frolik, Michael » 24 3 2011 2014 $2,333,333 3.63%
Berglund, Patrik » 24 2 2011 2013 $2,250,000 3.50%
Raymond, Mason » 26 1 2012 2013 $2,275,000 3.24%
Helm, Darren » 25 4 2012 2016 $2,125,000 3.03%
Anisimov, Artem » 24 2 2011 2013 $1,875,000 2.92%
Korpikoski, Lauri » 26 2 2011 2013 $1,800,000 2.80%
Simmonds, Wayne » 23 2 2011 2013 $1,750,000 2.72%
Boyle, Brian » 27 3 2011 2014 $1,700,000 2.64%
Pouliot, Benoit » 25 1 2012 2013 $1,800,000 2.56%
McGinn, Jamie » 24 2 2012 2014 $1,750,000 2.49%

The only guys in that list I would take Cogliano over are Pouliot, Frolik & maybe McGinn depending on if he can build on last year or not. Some of the players are significantly better than Cogs (Purcell, Marchand, Couture, Simmonds, Berglund, Wheeler, Nielson, Okposo).

Compared to other RFAs, I wouldn't have given Cogs more than a 1-2 year $1.4 - $1.7M deal. I was all for the trade with the Oilers until I saw what he signed for and now that we have a ton of young talent coming through on the wings and a lack of size up front, Cogs is fairly redundant amongst our group.

We're lucky that Cogs and Souray are the only bad contracts we have right now. Murray has avoided any of the retarded UFA deals but he's made a lot of minor deals which overpay players 500k - $1M which do add up, especially for a budget team (Eminger, Boynton, Voros, Artyukhin, Cogliano all come to mind).

Edit: Removed Burish who was an UFA when he signed.
