i hope everybody is safe, take care guys, it's absolutely terrible news.

i'm sure that nobody is thinking about it at the moment and rightly so, but can't help wondering what happens if Saddledome is damaged beyond quick repair? New Orleans Hornets scenario?

Heard that from other sources, too. I heard the water rose 3 rows in an hour, it's crazy.

I think CBC reported water up to row 8 so Francis' tweet seems accurate. The photo of the flooding around Keynote place (posted earlier) suggests that the entire stampede ground is under water. They're only a couple of blocks away from one another.

Eric Francis was reporting also there was some historical memorabilia were damaged and possibly destroyed from this, one item was a 1989 team photo that was all signed by the team. Pretty sad.

After five minutes thought, I'd anticipate they'd flood the surface at McMahon and possibly have outdoor games.

It's really the only nearby venue that could hold a significant amount of fans.

If insurance covers the damage, it might actually advance the construction of a new arena.

Keep dry guys. Is Saddledome on a hill like Nashville's arena?

Nope, it's not close to the rivers, but it is downtown - and downtown Calgary is pretty flat and low.

Yeah when Nashville had its flood the lower levels of the arena and first 2 rows were flooded and the arena is a good 20 ft (6-7 meters) up from the river. Hope it ends soon.

From what people are saying the peak isn't even here yet. Their saying the peak could be Saturday Morning. Which means you can expect more water. I wouldn't be surprised if it got close to the second level of the arena.

This is just terrible...

We ended up staying as only one side of our community was evacuated. Everything around Riverbend is underwater. Feeling like I'm on a bit of an island.

Carburn Park is under 15 feet of water.

Hope everyone is staying safe.

The Elbow river flows right by the Stampede grounds (Which is where the Saddledome is located). In fact, the stampede grounds are right at a bend of the Elbow so it's right on the front line in terms of flood damage.

Here's a map - look at the lower right.

Yeah, I remembered that a little after I made the post. I completely forgot the Elbow went right by the Stampede grounds on the south end.

I have visited Calgary a few times. Awesome city.

Drove through Bragg Creek and Black Diamond. Gorgeous areas.

Hope everyone stays safe. I heard on CBC that there are no injuries as of yet which is awesome to hear.
