Celebrations in the NFL:

Where do you stand on this?

Personally, I'm all for it. I think it's a great part of the game & helps to build rivalries. The thing that pisses me off the most is when broadcasters (who shall remain nameless) & the NFL overreact & blow everything out of proportion. Some of the guys in the league are very creative too. I mean Owens is my favourite when it comes to TD celebrations. Then you got Horn with the cell phone, C.Johnson with the sign in the goal post, Moss last Sunday in GB etc. etc.

But you can go over the line. For example, standing over a player after you just laid him out. Taunting kind of bugs me as well. As long as it's reasonable. But I guess I'm all over the map here, whatever.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as players can back it up, go crazy.

I dont have a problem with it really though I think props are a bit much

I thought what Moss did was hilarious and I applaud him to giving it back to the GB fans who are notorious for mooning the visiting team buses after Packer wins

No problem with it, have the oline come in and dance, they should enjoy themselves. Thoose announcers and the NFL over react to celebrations. When you do good on a test do you not celebrate? when you get promoted do you not celebrate? Stop the crying NFL and the let players have fun.

If you get to the endzone, act like youve been there before.

I personally dont mind the celebrations too much, and a lot of people over-react toward them. But come on, this isnt the WWF, and the NFL doesnt need them to be entertaining, I certainly dont feel anymore entertained by them. I prefer to let great plays speak for themselves.

i lke the celebrations, but they are not needed after every play. now on randy moss, that was hilarious!! give those cheeseheads what they deserve(i am a niners fan, going for colts rightn ow though), he was getting ragged on all day, gets hurt, and still beats al harris one on one for the final nail in the coffin. it was spectacular!! another fave is when TO scored against(i think the pack as well) and grabbed the pom poms, that is my all time fav!

i think the celebrations are fine and most are very very amusing -- but after touchdowns and such not after tackling a guy after he made a 20 yr gain down the field

I don't mind celebrations one bit, I mean it makes the game more fun and entertaining. I don't get why some people act like it's a big controversy, when it isn't at all....

I am for them as long as they don't involve lewd behaviour, gang sign gestures, death gestures, or anything that suggests illegal activity. I also didn't like the nonsense between the Cowboys and (I think it was) the 49ers a few years back where someone ran out to the star at midfield and then Emmitt reclaimed it and then a brawl started after the opponent tried to go back to the star. It was intended to incite a riot and nearly did.

I loved the Sharpie, the call to mama Horn, Deion Shuffle, the dirty bird, the mile high salute, and Chad Johnson's sign to the NFL. The NFL should ease up a bit and let the guys have fun.

I agree... do a little dance if it makes you happy, but leave the props, lewd gestures, and over the top stuff for the WWF.

They asked Jim Brown once how come he never spiked the ball like Billy "White Shoes" Johnson did when he scored touchdowns and he replied he didn't like to act like he had never made it into the endzone before.

I wish more players would follow suit.

I still dont' understand why celebrations in the NFL are tolerated yet in hockey people get all bent out of shape over it.

yep...I think a big part of these celebrations is the selfishness of the younger athlete these days. It's more about themselves scoring than their team winning.

Because we take pride in knowing that this is the one area that seperates the football, baseball and basketball players from our hockey players....class and sportsmanship.

That was T.O., as one might have guessed.

None of them beat T.O. with the pom-poms. Best ever!

Tacky, tasteless and unneccesary. I can appreciate genuine outbursts, but these pre-planned staged antics I see no need for.

Act like you've been there before and will be there again. I don't have a real problem with spontaneous celebrations after a TD, but anything pre-planned is lame.

What bothers me even more though are the celebrations after routine plays: special teams tackles, sacks, first down catches, tackles where the RB gained 6 yards etc. etc. etc.

Bush league.

It's one small step from celebrating a good play by making a spectacle of yourself to what they do now --- choreographed routines and guys showboating after every play.

Honestly, it soured me on football.

FOXSports.com has learned the league has fined Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss $10,000 for his controversial taunt of the Lambeau crowd this weekend.

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3320660

I love this line though.....

"The league didn't want to hit Moss with a major fine or suspension out of concern that such a move would simply bring more attention to an ugly incident, one that NFL execs hope just goes away."

Obviously, the NFL is joking about wanting to stop displays like this -- I'm confident that burying your head in the sand is a good way to take a stand.

Celebrations are great. It also teaches defenses a lesson. If you don't want Randy Moss pretending to moon your fans, or Terrell Owens claiming your star, then don't let them. Keep them out of the endzone.

I don't mind celebrations, but they can go too far. Horn's cell phone celebration was just stupid. Owens signing the football was stupid. (Somebody already said props are too much ...I agree.)

Now we come to Randy Moss "mooning" the Green Bay fans. If anybody knows the history behind Packers fans mooning the opposing team after every Packers home win, then you can see just how awesome this celebration was. Moss didn't waste time by running to the centre of the field (Owens doing this in Texas was stupid), he didn't do anything obscene...not in my opinion anyway, and he didn't taunt anybody.

Personally, I think Moss yelling at Green Bay fans with a few curse words inserted was worth more of a fine than his TD celebration....but even then, you know Packers fans started it by yelling obscenities at him. Who wouldn't want to rub it in at that point? Like Randy Moss said (if my lip-reading is accurate), "Look at the mother****ing scoreboard!"

Another thing that might rub me the wrong way about Owens and Horn....what was the significance of the touchdowns they scored when they performed their outrageous celebrations? (Forgive my lack of paying attention to the NFL back then..I really don't know ...if they were big and meaningful, perhaps historical TDs, please tell me.) Randy Moss' touchdown put the final nail in the coffin on a playoff win for Minnesota in a game where they were supposed to have their ***** handed to them on the frozen Lambeau Field tundra. Is that not worth celebrating slightly excessive?

If you want to do things like this for a routine regular season touchdown, then yes, fine them out their *****. If they do it in an obvious playoff adrenaline rush, then let it slide.

These td celebrations are great, as long as there only after td's and not every play or tauting the other team. I like them, the more props the better
