If Jamie Benn is moved to any team that isnt Toronto I wont watch a single leafs game this year. Seriously. Ill just watch the West games, East is easy to catch on the news/TSN.

That being said, I'd offer sheet Benn in a heart beat. He does it all. He's complete and then some. I'm a bit bias because he's my favorite player. Just watch this guy play.

He'd be the next great leaf.
I saw quite a few Dallas games last year and liked what I saw. He plays such a dominate physical game, exactly what we need for our first line.

I'd be content with offer sheeting him and giving up 2 firsts, a second and third.

Alternatively,

I'd offer the stars Kadri, Macarthur and a 1st.

Considering that Eklund is the source then 100% of this news is false. So unless I heard from Darren Dreger, Bob McKenzie or Pierre LeBrun that the Leafs were interested in Jamie Benn, then I will believe it.

I think Dallas would literally match any offer for him, unless it's something incredibly unrealistic.

Thoughts?

I would be content with Benn getting 7M per season.
He is an up and comer...

I would hold onto our pick. If there is a lock out, we have the best chance for it to be 1st overall.

He is the one who broke the Rick Nash trade and I personally like him as Hockey Insider.

Benn would require Weber like money. Leafs arent about to lose 4 first round picks. Only way Dallas wouldnt match is by doing a similar front loaded contract. Otherwise Dallas will match each and every offer. Dont know why i bothered to post in a junky Eklund thread.

Benn would be perfect for this team. I'd trade the picks for him without hesitating.

Sounds like Eklund just pulling one out of his arse after the Weber offersheet.

This is Jamie Benn guys not Kyle Wellwood

He is an emerging top 1C in NHL 23 and physical and big and can skate very well

And you think lets not give up a 1st...who cares, getting him completes our top 6 minus a deal for Ryane Clowe

Firsts are good but Benn is a first who worked out and is an emerging top player. A first pick might do that in 4 years...You want to wait that long AGAIN....

if there is truth to it Burke should pounce

That's right. Benn was the 129th pick in the first round.

To all those chiming in about the illegitimacy of this thread because it was an Eklund rumor:

Yes it was an Eklund rumor. No, people do not take much from them. However, it is still an interesting topic as it is an option. This is a leafs board, and thus options can be discussed to those who care. Oh, you don't care? Then do not click the thread.

Great lets suck for 4 more years and get more picks cause were a small market team with a tight budget and afraid of risk....

Two things scream it's not the Leafs to me. 1. Burke traditionally doesn't utilize offer sheets 2. Joe Nieuwendyk is a former colleague, and someone he has a friendly relationship with. Doubt he burns that bridge.

Guy has avged. 20goals and ~30 assists the last two years. He had 62 points in 2010/2011 and only 43 in 2011/2012 but also missed 9 games last year.

Cap Hit of $3.25mil for one more year and only 27 years old.

No, we do. BUT we are tied with a few other teams for highest probability. Even still, the likelihood is far from great.
