Don't know if anyone saw this yet, but there's a poll on TSN. You can vote here:

I'd rather have Letang. But Karlsson is in another tier offensively.

On Tsn.ca, the player playing on the Canadian team always wins.

This!

Tanger is a more complete defender, but Karlsson is better offensively.

Well said.

Karlsson is a stud, though. No doubt about it.

Letang is definitely stronger of the two.

Like has been said though, Karlsson's offensive IQ is beyond elite.

I saw a poll in the poll section where people were saying that Karlsson was a better skater than Paul Coffey.

Knowing how accurate people are on HF I would have to trust that assesment of Karlsson >>>>> Coffey already.

I love Letang and there is no question he is the better & more complete player right now. And he may remain the better overall player. But if Karlsson can add some more defensive reliability to his game, watch out: he'll be on another level. And there is a realistic chance of that happening over time.

I would probably also choose Karlsson over the long term just to durability, as I think he is better at avoiding injury and being vulnerable physically than Letang. And his personality doesn't strike me as a guy who will get lazy due to a big contract.

I said this after last year too, that I really think pound-for-pound, Karlsson is the best young defenseman in the NHL. Obviously Letang is in that conversation, too, as are Doughty, Myers & Pietrangelo. But another guy who I think will be right there in that conversation as well is P.K. Subban. The young talent on defense in the NHL is just staggering, and is ahead of pool of high-end forward depth across the league, IMO.

Better skater is one thing faster is another. IMO he's more mobile... thats about it.

I'll be the jerk that gives this to Karlsson. IMO both make some gaffs defensively. Tanger cleans up more of it because of his compete level but Karlsson's offense just widens that gap to large.

The thing about Letang is that I think he has to simplify his game to get better.

Karlsson, just on another level than the rest of the defensman in the league offensively and his defensive game will likely improve with experience. I still can't believe how close he was to going a ppg this year as a 21 year-old defensman in the current offensive environment.

The real question is who Sid will beat in the final, Giroux or Stamkos?

Karlsson is a turnover machine. I'm still a little baffled he won the Norris, but I guess it's hard to ignore those flashy offensive stats.

I like how everyone is so politically correct about including a line about how unbelievably good Karlsson is. Of course he is. What would be the point of a who's better poll about Shea Weber and Joe Corvo?

Yah but the turnovers will subside over time. Ultimately I think he will end up a better all-around player than Letang. Probably needs at least two more full seasons for that to happen.

But right now Letang is the more complete D, and when he's healthy his offensive numbers have been very good. Before he got hurt last year he was putting up points at a good clip; his offense had definitely improved. I think if he stays healthy, 15 and 50 is attainable for him. Those are elite numbers too, even if Karlsson's are ultimately higher.

Yeah I agree. And that's what made the video a little ridiculous to me. The question is who is the better player. Not who is the better offensive player. Yet they just showed goals and stats when comparing them. Yeah we all know Karlsson is a better offensive player. But, as of right now, Letang is the better player. That may change.

To the bold part, true but it's irrelevant to the question. The poll doesn't ask who will be the better player. It's who is the better player and I think they weighed the stats far too much in their "analysis". As it stands, Letang is the better player. He's more physical, better defensively, and plays in ALL situations.

I should mention that you said later what I'm saying above.

Yah... I'm not suggesting people vote Karlsson today. Tang all the way IMO, even with fewer points. Was just working the Magic 8 Ball for future status of these two players.

Both are really fun to watch. I think Letang makes a bit more of an impact across all 200 ft of the ice, but i wouldn't blame anyone for taking Karlsson as his offensive iq is higher. I love watching dmen like them...Letang, Karlsson, Doughty, and Pietrangelo are all a treat to watch.

Didn't Karlsson barely play the PK last season or something?

Karlsson is fun to watch... but he's like another forward out there. It's baffling how he was able to win the Norris over guys like Shea Weber who actually play defense.

I'll take Letang over him right now.

Karlsson is an average defensive player. He isn't as bad as a lot of people make him out to be. I think Niskanen is a fair defensive comparison and we want him in our top 4
