Yeah lucky he's a goalie and we had traded the other one right? Subban should have signed already. I don't mind putting the pressure in the dead heat of the summer

Until we get more PK at the zoo vids ok? *message*.

There are still tons of RFA so I wouldn't worry too much that Subban hasn't signed yet.

Benn, Kane, Del Zotto, Kulikov, O'Reilly, Ennis, Blum, Kaleta, Martin, Carlson, etc.

I guess he would make about the same amount of Carlson and Kulikov maybe?
Less than Kane, Benn and Del Zotto for sure.

Why would Del Zotto make more than Subban "for sure" ???

Del Zotto had a very good bounce back season for NY in 2011-12: 77 games, 10 goals, 31 assists, +20

Subban had a slight "sophomore slump" last year: 81 games, 7 goals, 29 assists, +9

I think Del Zotto had a better overall season and is younger than PK so he does merit a (slightly) better contract imo.

When looking at goals and assists (and God help you, +/-... for that to be useful you need to back out empty-net goals, goals for while on the penalty kill, and goals against while on the powerplay) you have to put those numbers into context. Del Zotto played 2nd-pairing type opposition with more offensive zone-starts than defensive zone-starts while Subban played top-pairing opposition starting more shifts in the defensive zone than the offensive zone.

Taking a look at the possession/shot metrics despite Subban being played in tougher situations overall he was better in the metrics even before adjusting for the difference in the quality of the team. There's no way Del Zotto had a better season than Subban. 3 goals/2 points does not make up for the difference in the difficulty of minutes or the superior possession Subban put up.

An Oilers blog I read said this about Subban:

Quote:
Subban is already in Shea Weber territory, but no one knows it. Subban has an advantage -- he's four years younger than Weber. Oilers fans were willing to give Weber all of the money in the world, they should be willing to do so for Subban too. To give you an idea of how good he is, he's turned both Hal Gill and Josh Gorges into possession killers over the last two seasons.
He's already the most valuable and most important Hab and has been since he took over the #1D minutes (and thrived in them) back in 2011.

Great post, and thanks for the link. A few good comments in there as well, I see. I really should visit this site more often.

Copperandblue is probably one of the only legitimate hockey blogs. Most people don't know a power-play scheme from their ass but these guys are good.

Totally kinda related: who'd like to be a part of a weekly podcast discussing the Habs? PM me if you're interested, PM overlords your nude picture if you're not.

I'm reading those comments too, they speak very highly of Subban. Kinda flattering compared to the crap you read on here most of the time from the haters. And they all seem to come from legitimate sources not just nobody's.

Still think Subban is a lock? 5.5 million, roughly a 600% increase and he's still not willing to sign.

^^^^

It's actually $5.5M over two years.

Basically a pretty low offer, almost in low ball territory (if it's true)

$2.25 AAV per year.

Yeah. For a guy who gonna play around 25 minutes per game and possibly be the most productive d-man, ahead of Markov.

Other teams will try to sign him now....

I have a hard time believing this though.

Bergervin talks very highly of PK, then he turns around and low-balls him? Seems fishy.

I agree, smells like botchy reporting.

If I were PK's agent, I would advise him to sign for 1 year. He'll be making big money soon enough.

I would want at least 6.5-7.5M for 2 years.

Anyway this is how I see it.

Year by year salary.

Year 1:3.5
Year 2:4
Year 3:4.5
Year 4:5
Year 5:5.5
Year 6:6

Cap hit

1 year: 3.5M aav
2 years: 3.75M aav
3 years: 4M aav
4 years: 4.25M aav
5 years: 4.5M aav
6 years: 4.75M aav

Since he's 23, I wouldnt sign him for 3 to 5 years.
It's 1-2 years or 6+years to have some UFA years in there.

At 2.75 million per year it's not even worth writing that he could receive an offer sheet, this report is garbage.

Edit: According to this report P.K. with his stats is worth 1 million less to the Montreal Canadiens than Eric Johnson to the Colorado Avalanche with roughly lower stats.

P.K. go take the same path Price did. Accept the 2 year offer, prove your worth and then sign for the big money.
