Should we offer sheet Evander Kane?

Now that the retention of Shea Weber is in the books we all know we still need to add atleast one more piece to the puzzle; a top 6. I was reading around on the Jets forum and came across this information.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=401311

Supposedly a 6yr/29mill deal between Kane and the Jets. Could we/should we, if it's even an idea in the front office, send Kane and offer sheet or are we better off signing a few UFA's that still remain?

No. Doubt he would sign one, they would match, and it's just not worth the trouble.

And unless we're offering him Weber money, we would be unable to submit an offer sheet owing to the lack of a 2nd round pick next season (Mtl, in the A. Kostitsyn trade).

Yeah the Jets have very wealthy owners. I'm sure the owners don't want to lose money (even though they are billionaires) but I'm sure they hand over the money to the GM just to send a message to other teams and their fan base even if it means losing money next year

No, if we want to go after an RFA we have to offer his current team a trade. We still do not have the financial luxury to send out offer sheets to other players (except for maybe Philadelphia in a couple of years)...

I'd offer sheet Vorachek. 5 million or so. At least crunch Philly against the cap for their complementary players.

Kane is Winnepeg's Weber. There is no amount they won't match. Besides, we're missing picks, we can't offer anything but the max.

If Kane is disgruntled and wants out of Winnepeg (I don't know why he would but if he does), then Preds should be all over that. Along with about 25 other teams. The price will be through the roof. Probably more than Bobby Ryan would cost.

I'd go get Semin if we're looking for forward help (IMHO, #2/#3 D-man is higher priority). He wouldn't be the first "malcontent" to find a niche here, and if he does, you've got a 35-40 goal player. And you don't give up anything to get him.

Again, I guess it boils down to just how much cash we do have.

This. If I'm Wilson and the owners, I'd ask Poile to figure out the threshhold where we don't give up painful picks, front load the entire thing as a bonus, with leauge minimum salary and let it rip. If Vorachek wouldn't sign it, I'd put out a press release indicating we have served up that offer to him. THAT'S how you deal with a bully.

i had forgotten about the lack of a 2nd round pick.

And i would be all over the Semin idea, but he's asking too much I bet. After getting offered 10 million per season in the khl I'm sure he thinks he can get around 7 or 8 here when he realistically is worth 6.

The voracek idea is also a good one. idk if Philly is going to resign him.

Again, unless we find a way to re-acquire our 2nd round pick, the only offer sheet we could submit, for Voracek or anybody else, would be in the $7.825M+ per year range. It's not happening.

I'm not up on my NHL bylaws, but I suspect such a press release might be verboten.

At least you'd make the Jets pay top dollar for him...it's a great way to meet market efficiency.

I say offer sheet vorachek to a front loaded deal that he can't refuse.

Which, according to some posters, is a perfectly legitimate reason for signing him.

But no, we shouldn't send an OS Kane's way. It would basically just be another Kesler to Flyers situation.

Nope. He's not even worth 2 1st rounders, IMO. Decent player and all, but not worth all that.

Realistically, he's in the 4.5-5.0 range, max, but he isn't going to sign an offer sheet for that low an amount. We couldn't submit an offer sheet in the 4.6-7.7 range because we lack our 2013 2nd round pick.

Doubt the Preds offersheet for anyone. If they do anything it will be sign Doan, trade for Ryan, or make a trade for an average player.

What about $4.63M per year for 3 years with $12M of it in signing bonus (roughly) and salary of $600k per year (roughly)? Isn't the CBA insurance of that perhaps worth it to him? Let the rumor out even if he won't sign it that we made a "significant" offer to him. If he does sign it, Philly easily matches and gets a coke to wash the salty taste out of their mouth.

It's not worth the backlash/trouble of submitting an offer sheet that Philly will have no problems matching. I also doubt Voracek signs that offer sheet, as it is not that much more $ than he is probably asking for as is.
