Foligno - Dubinsky - Anisimov
Umberger - Brassard - Atkinson
Calvert - Johansen - Prospal
Letestu - Mackenzie - Dorsett

Jared Boll and Colton Gillies are completely worthless and hopefully won't be around much longer. Would love to see Jenner on the team.

Wiz - JMFJ
Nikitin - Tyutin
Moore - Erixon/Savard/Aucoin (I'm guessing Aucoin is going to be about as impactfull as Craig Rivet)

Couple of observations.

I don't think Boll is completely worthless. I would keep him as the extra forward and put him in the line-up when we are playing teams where his skill set (fighting) is needed. Plus, in his limited playing time he has shown an ability to fore-check well, and pot the occasional goal.

My other observation is that I think Aucoin was picked up more for his many years of experience in this league. Almost more of a player coach for our young D-men. I would expect him to be a healthy scratch quite often, and he probably knows that. His purpose here is to be a positive force with the young D in practice and in the locker room.

I don't buy that. With the schedule that might end up happening occasionally. But this guy was very useful for Phx last year. One injury in the top four and this guy is playing 22 minutes a night.

Assuming the lockout hasn't impacted him greatly, his presence on the ice will be desired.

He didn't come here to be healthy scratched and help young guys in practice. He came here to contribute to the team on game night while helping the young players.

Agreed, I think he'll get the bulk of time on the third pairing and the young d men will share the other spot.

Thirded. I think people are projecting, though, based on their concern that a 7th d-man would be a young'un and spend too much time in the press box instead of playing and, hopefully, improving. That's not totally unreasonable, and there are some decisions to be made.

Sadly it is unlikely that we'll be healthy enough for this to really be an issue. I'll be thrilled if it becomes a "problem".

What will be more interesting is what we do moving forward.

I don't deny that this could be the case, but I still believe that he was brought in to mentor the young guys. If he gets a boatload of playing time because he deserves it, than so be it. I have no problem with that. Plus, it seems to be a well known fact that JD likes to bring young guys into the mix slowly, so that could mean more playing time for Aucoin.

But, let's be real. He is coming into a situation where we have a pretty decent blue line, and he is in the twilight of his career. I don't think that he would be surprised if he were scratched often. he still has to earn a spot, and a young guy could still step upH

As always, injuries will change everything.

I just skimmed this thread but..

Am I the only one who thinks that Tuytin and Nikitin should be getting first pairing minutes? then with JMFJ and WIZ quarterbacking the first line PP.

They have just as much to prove as Jack and Wiz do imo. We do not know if that first year together was a fluke or not, I think Richards will put the best playing pairs out there when he needs good d for a late period stop. Depends who steps up really to deserve that.

I love the bottom pairing just for "Mo Money"...if they play together, that will be an ACA chant.

Here's my second option (changes in the top six)...

Foligno - Dubinsky - Anisimov (New Blue)
Umberger - Brassard - Atkinson (Feed the Kid!)
Prospal - Letestu - Dorsett (Old Time Hockey!)
Gilles - MacKenzie - Boll (Crash and Bash)

JMFJ - Wiz (Controlled Chaos)
Tyutin - Nikitin (The Red Line)
Aucoin - Moore (Mo Money)
Erixon

Bobrovsky
Mason
(Russian and Swiss)

With Johansen and Jenner likely coming up next year, I'd say Brassard and Letestu for competing for a spot on next year's roster. The loser gets traded.

I like these lines except Anisimov should be in the middle and i'm not sure how i feel about Gillies. I wouldn't mind seeing Kubalik at some point or going off the board a bit i wonder if Collins would be ready this year to do anything in the NHL.

Edit: Or move Dorsett down to the 4th and give JAM a spot on the 3rd line i guess may be a bit more practical

From today's Dispatch:

"Here’s what the top three lines could look like today:

• R.J. Umberger-Derick Brassard-Cam Atkinson
• Derek Dorsett-Artem Anisimov-Brandon Dubinsky
• Nick Foligno-Mark Letestu-Vinny Prospel"

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...-to-start.html

I question DD on the second line, I suppose I'd prefer to see Foligno up there. Either way, I like the third line.

As my suggested lines would indicate, I do not like Brass and Cam together. I like that less than I like DD on the second. (Although if Richards made the swap of Dubinsky and Atkinson I'd prefer, I wouldn't like DD there, meanng he's have to make my swap there, too. Haha.)

For about the third season in a row, the most important player, as far as "taking the next step" in concerned, will be Brassard.

I don't that fixed lines are going to prove very important. Given the density of the schedule, the guys who are normally in the press box are going to play almost as much as the rest of the squad simply because of sheer exhaustion. Everybody is going to take regular turns in the press box even if injuries don't bite, and of course they will. Similarly Mason is going to play every week, sometimes twice even if Bob nails down the #1 goalie spot. This is going to be a team by committee. Yes, McKenzie, Dorsett and Boller will play together a lot more they with Brass, Anisimov, Umberger, etc. Really about the only thing we're betting on is opening night. After that all bets are off.

It's a short season and anything can happen but if Umberger is a first liner after 48 games the Jackets will confirm the NHL pre season pick to seed 30th...

(apologies, bit of a fantasy question) Does Dorsett have enough skill to skate on the second line?

Depends on the team.... He is a third liner at best and 4th on top ten teams... That said, a guy who can play any line in a pinch and do his job, he would be on my roster... heart before brain always wins.
