thanks guys- those 235 PIMs are very attractive if DD makes himself more useful otherwise.

The guy that needs to take the biggest step in the NHL is goalie bob. If he does we could be an entertaining team. Brassard, it would be nice to see him get back to the level pre-fight. I knew when he threw the gloves that game it wasn't a good thing.

I believe Nob will be fine. He posted some impressive numbers in the KHL. Jet lag, exhaustion and it being practice could be reasons for his less than stellar showing.

For about the third season in a row, the most important player, as far as "taking the next step" in concerned, will be Brassard.

Sorry, I meant from among the forward group. Was responding specifically to what was posted.

You have Dorsett in there twice, and he will be playing RW on line 2, not LW.

I also think MacKenzie will be 4th C over Letestu with Letestu on the RW and Calvert on LW.

Okay, so why does Dorsett figure to be on the second line? At best he is a third liner and more likely a real good 4th liner. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Because we have three 3rd lines, and one 4th?

Seriously, Dorse-Artem-Dub is a 3rd line on most teams.

Who says that's the order of the lines. And how long before the first line change is made. The lines Richards has been using looks to me like the Anisimov line would be playing hard minutes checking against the best players on the other team. The other two lines can be scoring lines with the energy guys on the bottom.

It doesn't really matter what order you slot them in, it matters what situation Richards has the lines playing and their minutes that matter.

The 12 forwards are mostly 2/3 guys and a couple of solid 4th liners. Let's not get hung up on whether someone is a 'second-liner' or not in stature. There are going to be guys on l1 who could be l3, l3 who could be l4 or l2, l1 who could be l2 or l3....

I'm terrible at this stuff, but here's my thought:

Umby - Brass - Atkinson
Anisimov - Johansen - Dubinsky
Foglino - Letestu - Prospal
Dorsett - Mackenzie - Calvert

Johnson - Wiz
Tyutin - Nikitin
Aucoin - Moore

Bobs
Mason

Scratches: Gillies, Boll, Savard

Dorsett derseves to be there in my opinion. He is the one player last year that can truely say he gave his all. He also has some offensive ability, which was on display last season. I cant wait to see what kind of season he has!!! IMO Dorsett will pot 20g in a season at some point during his career. Cant wait till Sat and Mon!!!

What if Cam can't go? Is he replaced by the similarly sized Calvert (maybe the Preds won't notice)? Is there a big scramble, with everyone moving up one line? That means Dorse on top, and wouldn't that scramble some eggs around here! As often is the case, is it better to weaken one line by plugging in a lesser player, or shake up all the lines to find some sort of balance?

Not worried at all that Cam can/cant go. I'd bet a large sum of money that he'll play opening night. Good point by Byyral about the second line of Artie Dubi and Dorse. They are going to be matching up against the other teams top lines. We have three 2nd line people.

The reason people are putting Dorsett with Dubinsky and Anisimov? Because for the whole training camp he's played on that line, so it figures he plays there on Saturday. Same with the CUB line.

This is pretty much what I would say. Maybe put Boll in place of Calvert.

I really like the Foligno-Johansen-Prospal line. If Johansen is truly ready to break out offensively, it'll be the 1st line by the end of January.

Bingo! I dont understand why people are throwing out all these different combo's? Would be stupid to keep certain lines together all week without giving them a shot?

Because real NHL coaches evaluate players on criteria more nuanced than "no better than a third-liner"?

Folks, remember we're playing Nashville. Boller is going to play.
To be generous, this looks like two second lines, a third and a fourth.

Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Dorsett
Foligno-Johansen-Prospal
Letestu-Mackenzie-Boll

Johnson-Wisniewski
Tyutin-Nikitin
Aucoin-Moore

Bobrovsky
Mason

Calvert, Gillies, Savard
