Really? I think the U.S. has done about as well as could be expected.

Another Silver for us today. Would be great to get one in the swimming later.

Finally tally for the US. 46 Gold, 29 silver, 29 bronze. 104 total medals. #1 in Gold, Silver and overall medals. Not too shabby.

Czechs finished with the score 4-3-3 despite of some disappointments. I'm ok with that, it was fun.

Not that bad considering the population of London , Moscow or many American and Chinese cities are larger than your entire country. Well done.

Russia:
2008 23-21-29 73 in total or 140 points
2012 24-25-33 82 in total or 155 points

Only a slight improvement. Some funding is returning in several sports but there is still an enormous amount of work needed to be done to restore facilities across the country to levels pre 1990 as well as bringing back the large number of coaches now scattered to the four winds.

Judo and wrestling impressed along with athletics. Boxing was disappointing as was artistic gymnastics especially the men.

Swimming and cycling the latter of which is attracting funding will take time to improve again.

Team sports . Both volleyball teams aimed for gold and had a real chance. Handball and water polo teams need to improve drastically. Basketball teams were a disgrace although the youth sides as in ice hockey are showing marked improvement over the last 2-3 years.

Tennis was a let down too. No Kafenikov or Safin this time around bt to win a gold was a challenge.

Women were terrible unlike Beijing. If Sharapova put more time into her tennis than advertising she might have done better.

Fencing , shooting were poor where Russia has been strong. Poor selection in the mens pentathlon and the sailing teams were a joke.

Croatia went 3-1-2. Best Olympics ever for us, our sailing crews failed to medal, so that was a little bit disappointing and I expected more from our quadruple sculls, who dominated every competition, but came 2nd in London and our men's handball team should've won more than bronze.

But overall I'm thrilled with our results.

8-9-11 for Italy, a tad better than expected so I'm fine with this outcome, we had some surprised and a couple of letdowns.

I'm concerned about Rio though, we don't seem to have a generation who can pick up the pace in the sports we usually do very well, fencing for example. Hope I'm wrong...

top few countries of the medal count.

So is everyone satisfied with their countries?

I kinda don't know. more medals for germany than in 2008, but less golds. The surprising medals that were golds a in the last couple of games were silvers or bronzes now.

but we're ahead of france, so it's all good

1-4-3 for Sweden. Better than expected even though many of the top names failed. Instead a lot of unknown names and surprises raised up.

The one gold was in sailing star boat to Fredrik Lf and Max Salminen. They had improbable chances going in to the medal race but did the only thing they could winning the race. Meanwhile Great Britain sailers choked and the gold was won. Lf made his 6th olympics and took his first gold. Max made his olympic debut.

The marginals were not with us elsewhere. Michel Torneus missed the medal with 1 cm in long jump. Lisa Norden missed gold in triathon by 9 thousands of a second. Sara Algotsson-Ostholt missed gold on the last hurdle in equestrian individual eventing.

Wrestling refs hate our guts.

Even through this success, we still lose in the medal race to ****ing Norway and Denmark. At least we beat Finland.

Kind of disappointed with only 104 medals, anything less than 200 is unacceptable in my opinion.

totally. In Rio we need to look at sweeping the podium in every Olympic sport.

Except men's field hockey...that's pretty embarrassing. That's one sport I'm glad we suck at/don't play.

That's no accomplishment these days. We've got little talent, ****** coaching and not much money either. Our javelin guys lose to 19 year olds from Trinidad & Tobago that have only been throwing for 4 years...

Japan at one point was 2-12-12 I think. They just suck at getting gold.

Just edged out of the top 5 for Gold medal count, but ranked #5 in total medal count.

Proud of Germany.

I think #1 goal for US Olympics in 2016 should be to totally dominate Brazil in all there top sports

Would really be entertaining to see US Men/Women somehow walk away with golds at Soccer , etc (US Men's Soccer team would have to qualify of course something that is no sure thing)

Winning the Olympics ain't bad. And to celebrate it, we went to Mars. Solid week for us.

29 golds for Team GB is a lot considering it took like a week to get their first.

And there's already been a retroactive change to the medal table, as a Belarusian shot putter has been stripped of her gold: http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2...ed-gold-doping

Change a Silver to Gold for New Zealand, a bronze to silver for Russia, and add a bronze to China.

Well that's when all the cycling and show riding events took place, which is their forte, no?

I don't think they were expected to do well in the water events (swimming, diving), and sure enough they didn't.

We were expected to do better in swimming with a gold at least but didn't get any.
