He could afford his own ticket, I think.

Phoenix would never do this.

Even if they could agree on a trade I think Phoenix might be on Gomez's no trade list given the uncertainty in that market.

I think Gomez wants to leave montreal,no one will recognize him in phoenix's street. He will get less pression and no one will applaud when he goes to touch the puck in the game.

If im Gomez,I choose Phoenix or any other city where the coyotes could move before Montreal

The franchise will almost certainly end up in either Phoenix or Quebec, right? He's already in Quebec.

If we are going to take a cap dump center, I'd prefer Connolly or Lombardi to Gomez. They have expiring contracts and won't stress our budget next off season.

The cap hit doesn't match the salary for Gomez, which could be appealing. 7.37 cap hit with 5.5 and 4.5 in salary over the next 2 seasons.

While I think Gomez' contract is unmovable unless someone picks him up on re-entry waivers. It seems to me he's destined for Hamilton for the next 2 seasons.

If Gomez ever vetoed a trade out of Montreal, he would become one of the most hated players in sports. Has anyone ever been booed nightly in their own building? It would happen.

He already vetoed a trade to NYI last year.

At this point in time, Gomez' no trade list is totally irrelevant. He has a limited NTC but if Bergevin came out to him and said that he either agrees to the trade or he'll do like Wade Redden and play in the AHL, I'm pretty sure that he would agree. The guy has pride.

It's an interesting thought; a $7.3M cap hit with an average $5M salary for two years would be somewhat inciting for a financially constrained team such as Phoenix who's so far below the cap floor as of now.

However, I think they'd rather spend that kind of money on some of the remaining UFAs, who could produce a little more bang for their buck (Doan, Langkow, Brunette, Moore, etc).

I know this might sound hard to believe but Gomez provides a lot of leadership and is a great teammate. If Phoenix loses Doan (which it appears is likely) Gomez could step into the room and help in that fashion which would make up for a lack of production in a way.

Still don't think Gomez will be moved, but stranger things have happened.

I wonder what is Montreal record when Gomez is out of the lineup. Did anyone notice Montreal have hard time when he is out of the lineup?

I think Gomez is now one of the most underrated player in the league.

Of course his trade value is not underrated, its incredibly negative. But Gomez skill as a player is underrated.

At 1 500 000$ Gomez would be a player every team would want in their lineup.

But still, paying $5M for leadership and a guy who's scored 9 goals & 49 points over the last 118 games is not very fiscally responsible.

They could just sign Arnott/Brunette/Knuble/Pandolfo/Morrison/Kubina/Hecht if what they're looking for is more leadership in the dressing room.

OP has the Coyotes bailing out Montreal and losing a player?
Might as well just re-sign Langkow and keep Biz than trade for Gomez!

If Montreal waived him and put him on re entry, I would have no problem paying him 3.75, o wait, 7.5 counts against the cap doesn't it?

Looks like Montreal is stuck with a 10 million dollar 4th line.

I think either Kostitsyn or a vet player like Arnott, plus NYI style bonuses, in free agency would be better for the Coyotes. If Gomez had a year left, that would be another matter entirely, 7.3 cap hit, even if the cost is only 5 million per season, for a player of Gomez calibre just seems like a waste on a contending team.

That wouldn't put the Yotes above the floor.

I'm sorry, but what is the floor? Do you have some insight to the CBA that is currently being negotiated? I know that the floor doesn't exist until the season starts, which means that the current CBA will have expired then!

There is absolutely nothing appealing about being stuck with 4.5m of our budget tied up AFTER this upcoming season. It's unacceptable. If this were the final year of his contract, I'd make the trade. It's not, though, and we need to sign Mike Smith, OEL, and Boedker to new contracts next summer. No ****ing way we still have a guy like Gomez on the books for 4.5m next summer. It would be idiotic.

The guy had 7 55+ point seasons, if you want keep Bissonnette and how about a prospect instead, Tikkinen? 5th round pick in the most recent draft.
