Just announced as official on the MLB Network.

Qualls will step in to replace Lincoln. McGehee was pushed down a little too far the depth chart, apparently. Considering McGehee wasn't going to be retained after this season he was an obvious choice to move for bullpen depth after Sanchez was acquired.

Qualls isn't anything great, but with the Reds and Cardinals improving their pens today it became almost a necessity to add someone there.

Hopefully it can be an A.J. Burnett deal and he will get better away from the pressure.
Also I've noticed we deal with NYY frequently?

Qualls is not that great, but with Sanchez coming here McGehee was not needed.

Confirmed, Rosenthal on MLB Network.

Agree with this 100%

James Santelli ‏@JamesSantelli
Chad Qualls does not "fill a void." All Chad Qualls does is take up a bullpen seat that should belong to Morris, Locke or Wilson.

People are really underestimating the loss of Lincoln. Relievers may be a dime a dozen but relievers who are consistently solid are not easy to find. Huntington made the pen worse and may or may not have marginally improved the offense.

Yeah, pretty much everyone on Twitter shares this same sentiment. Searched his name on Google and he has a 6.14 ERA this year. Ouch.

Agreed, but they were not going to get much for McGehee.

Surprised we haven't traded correia. Maybe it would be smart for is to move him back in rotation and put Bedard there.

If he is throwing two year old temper tantrums, putting him back in the rotation is probably not a good idea.

It would make him happy. He's more consistent than bedard and we don't need a sourpuss.

Bill Brink @BrinkPG
In 16 hours, #Pirates bullpen lost Brad Lincoln and added Daniel McCutchen and Chad Qualls

I wouldn't judge an AL pitcher before he does it in the NL. I haven't watched him to judge.

We weren't getting any real value for mcgehee anyway.

his combined ERA is 4.89. He pitched in Philly earlier in the year.

Daniel mccutchen is more than capable. He proved that last year, and in some long relief situations too.

Pitching in the NL is a lot easier though. Burnett is a great example of that. I'm sure that's what the Pirates are hoping. Pirates can still turn to Morris, Locke or Wilson if things don't go well.

Thanks, I didn't look him up. I just didn't expect much for mcgehee. I'm surprised it wasn't a "future considerations" deal.

I agree with this sentiment

Dejan Kovacevic

The Pirates got better at the deadline. I won't dispute that, even with the hole in middle relief. The question is HOW MUCH better? And better WHEN? Wandy was the right move with the right motivation. But the only two bats acquired, even with their upside, come with big question marks for 2012. This is the year that should have counted now. Make these deals in 2011, and I'm standing and applauding. This year is a rare chance, a special chance. Assuming otherwise is nuts, given wealth of factors.

McCutchen is fine. Not the stuff that Lincoln has but he's an average ML relief pitcher. Qualls is indeed awful.

On another note, Snider is in the lineup tonight batting second.
