Great job 'fixing' the broken system, MLB.
Yeah, basically a Boras like agent would only use that additional slotting money against the pirates and say they have additional money to spend and their client wont sign unless they get all of it. It's just such an assanine system and as much as I enjoy the pirates they have the worst run league in professional sports.

My thoughts on the Pirates' moves:

Lincoln for Snider seems like it could potentially be a pretty good deal. Looks like Lincoln wouldn't make a good starter, could be a closer some day but we have Hanrahan now and our bullpen is already great. Snider was pretty good 2 years ago at the age of 22 and then he hasn't played a full season in the bigs since. give him a prolonged chance and he could turn into a solid batter. I liked Lincoln, so even though i'm a little upset he got traded, he could've been traded to a worse team than the Blue Jays.(Like the Yankees)

As for Gaby, it seems like everyone on the new Miami Marlins performed below expectations this year. so maybe and hopefully it was just something about that team that messed players up and he can at least bounce back to near his 2010-11 numbers. I think even how he's playing now he's better than Gorkys, who probably would never become an everyday outfielder, so it's pretty much just that pick for him.

McGehee for Qualls: Meh. i'm pretty sure Casey made more than him so it's just saving a couple bucks and there really isn't any room for him anyways. Qualls never really was good at all, so we can't really say "maybe he'll return to his ____ form!", but who knows. Grilli's numbers weren't that great before he came to the Bucs and he's been pretty good for them. Qualls could possibly be at least a little useful.

If Marte/Snider work out, we could have a badass outfield for a long time.

I can't see it because of his terrible strike-zone recognition at the MLB level. Giles was an elite at strike-zone recognition and while Bay did k a ton, he also walked a ton as well.

I can see Snider being a Corey Hart-type hitter. Decent average and solid power but not too may walks and a ton of k's.

When you see this combo of slashes and numbers, it's referring to (in order) batting average, on-base average and slugging average. For example, last season the average slash stats for a National League first-basemen were .270/.350/.451. 1B is the easiest position to play and almost always has the highest offensive threshold. That hitting line was the highest for any position in the NL last year.

So if Sanchez plays well, I could see him hitting at around the league-average at 1B or a little below it.

Let's go Neil. Grand slam here and Burnett will carry us to the end.

It's not that they didn't help but the pitching fell apart so it didn't much matter what they did. I think some similar cheap rentals would have been ideal for this year, but apparently there were no such moves to be had.

I don't think Coleman should worry about being in MLB too long.

The Chicago wind robs Marte of his second home run. Brutal.
