Not a terribly thrilling group. Better coaching COULD make a huge difference, Stuart will help (but how much is a big question). We still really need a better left side puck mover back there. Forward corp is pretty slow (Pavelski, Clowe, Couture, Handzus, Sheppard).

I would not be terribly confident we make the playoffs. And a cup is utterly out of the question.
We haven't improved from last season, when we barely made it as a 7th seed. Scrap the whole damn thing and rebuild already. Sigh.

Its possible we wont but highly probable that we will. What happens in the playoffs really depends on the combination of how DW changes the team between now and the playoffs AND how the new coaching staff plays out.

So really it comes down to Boyle, Clowe, and Murray as trading chips. I'm about 60-40 for trading Boyle, even without replacement right now.

EDIT: Anyone know why the roman numerals in the title are funny?
enlighten me bro

Today must be 'Take a crap on SJ day' on the Trade Rumors and Free Agent talk boards. Not a single decent proposal.

Pavelski for Grabner and a third, Clowe for Gagne and Hickey or for Jokinen. Good times.

guh, we suck at free agency. Why does DW prefer to give up assets?

Doan is our last hope.

With the current salary situation there really isn't a decent deal to be made. There is not enough moveable guys signed to long term deals.

At least there isn't a big deal to be made...

What makes you think Semin wanted to come here?

I'm sad that we didn't get Sasha, but I don't know if I'd give $7M, even though it's only one year.

That way, you can even up the salary and also get rid of dead weight, (think Heatley/ Michalek, Cheechoo).

Sharks don't have 7 mil to give out to FA's. Even if they did, Semin isn't worth it. He's making the same amount as Joe Thornton. Lol.

I would've preferred it if the Sharks gave him that contract. Its a one year deal so its not too bad.

How would you make that work? Keep in mind the Sharks would still need to sign another forward and would still need to have the ability to have 6 d under roster. Would you have a cap cushion?

What would you give up in order to give Semin that contract?

Just looked at CAR's cap situation - can't believe they're paying Staal over $8m.

And yet they're still $13M under the cap.

I still think we'll end up with Doan on something like a 2yr/5per deal that includes a handshake agreement that we'll trade him to Phoenix for a 7th if ownership figures itself out.

Wonder what the NHL's deadline is for Phoenix to participate next year? Perhaps one doesn't exist and they're okay with bankrolling them for another season while Jamison figures things out.

Sorry, I guess this might belong in the Doan thread...but I'm still Armchair'ing.

check him off the list, looks like Doan or a lesser UFA. Perhaps a deal for a RFA winger or two.

I seem to be the only one that thinks we're just going to fill out our bottom 6 and roll with that, leaving some cap space for moves up to the deadline.

The rest of us are optimistic based on DWs comments. When DW does what you suggest, we'll be pissed but not really surprised.

I just think many UFA's are looking to cash in before the new CBA and we all know how DW feels about megadeals, not to mention we don't have a ton of cap space (5.5 million is it?)
