Solid consensus until the #13 spot. But it doesn't really matter since none of those guys after #10 will likely ever be NHL regulars.

Very nice list! How many NHL games does it take for you to not be considered a prospect anymore?

For Hockey's Future, the criteria is generally 65 games for skaters, 45 games for goalies, before the prospect's 24th birthday season. There are some exceptions for NCAA players and Europeans.

You can see the entire criteria here.

I'm working on the HF version of the Panthers Top 20 right now. It won't look much different from this list, I don't think. Nicely done, people.

Connor Brickley has a good shot at it. 4th line guy, yes - but definitely could be a regular in a few years. He's hard nosed, consistent, and has been improving his game. He'll have plenty of chance to shine this year as UVM's big-name freshman they were expecting this year ended up signing a pro contract with Buffalo a week or two ago.

And to add to that, John McFarland has a lot of upside. Hasn't really evolved too much, but that's not to say he can't be a late bloomer.

Nope. McFarland is a bust, plain and simple. He's done nothing since being taken 1st overall in the OHL draft, and since then his production has actually gone down every single year. That's like the primary sign of a wasted pick. Some guys have difficulty transitioning into a more premiere league, which is somewhat normal, but after 4 years in the same major junior league without making any strides is a serious red flag.

Of course it's a red flag. The point here though is that his current production doesn't even put him on this list, in my eyes. The only thing that keeps him here is his potential of what would be a very big uphill battle. But I mean, while he's here, you've still got to figure his potential is all that matters. Things just aren't looking very good (or very realistic) for him.

When will the 2012 Draft Prospect ratings be updated? I have been dying to see them.

I think Kosov should have been higher and hopefully his play in the KHL will prove me right, but I like the talent this organization has accumulated, it's a nice problem to have!

Wow. What a group of prospects we have! The depth of high quality high potential players make us put our newest 1st rounder on 9th, Kyle Rau with his great season behind him at 10! only these two players would be top 3-5 on most teams prospect lists, and we have them in the middle of the pack!
Wow.

I'm working on them now, actually. There's a process by which we submit the rankings and ratings for peer review among the HF team before they are finalized. I've already submitted the ratings and feedback is rolling in.

All that said, probably a week or so for the Top 20 and new ratings. If you haven't read my review of the draft, you can find that here.

Actually, yes, I was mistaken. He finally improved his point totals in 2012 to be a point-per-game player. After 4 years in the OHL.

I'm sorry, but thats an idiotic comment about a 20 year old prospect. McFarland will contribute in the NHL, because of his speed and shot he can play many different game styles. I'm not willing to give up on him, and neither should you.

He's pretty much the epitome of a player with boom-bust potential. There's no reason to simply outright him as a bust at this point, but at the same time I wouldn't expect him to be in the NHL. He has tools. So far, he's shown that he's not really capable of using them. Who knows, maybe he'll figure it out?

Idiotic? So we disagree about the viability of prospects, therefore my comments are idiotic? Well I think you're a moron because you don't agree with everything I say.

What are you, 12?

lol, no.. and you not better yourself: "Nope. McFarland is a bust, plain and simple".

Why would you give up on a prospect that is 20 years old and has all the tools, even if he didn't have a great juniors. It makes no sense to call him a bust all ready. And, yes it idiotic to give up on someone with his talents. Maybe his game is more suited for the pro-level or that he lacked motivation i juniors? I just can't agree with anything in your statement, because it makes no sense calling a talented prospect that hasnt lived up to the hype in juniors, when he has improved every year. When he was in Sudbury he played on a ****** team, so basing opinions on stats is stupid.

I'm pretty sure they own his rights for what -- another two years?

Needless to say, I don't think he'll be coming over. Hasn't exactly panned out (not that I expect a 6th/7th round pick to pan out).
