It would be so nice to actually see legit one timers from the Rangers. I don't I can recall many of them from the Rangers. :/ BUT if the defense decides to stop taking 5mph wrist shots from the blue line with no screen AND start getting some freedom. I think it might help

I want them to utilize Gabby like the Devils utilize Kovy. open up space for him to one time it. Move the play over to one side, only to have the puck go back to Gabby on the right wall for a one timer. Until he comes back, Nash can rip some one timers on the right wall.

Am I the only one who saw the title of this particular thread and thought it looked like the name of a bad heavy metal band?

A good PP is as much about scoring as it is the "threat" to score. We didn't have that last year outside of Gaborik. Shutdown Gabby, and pressure Richards, and you really don't have much else to worry about. Adding Nash gives us another scoring threat. I also think he has a better one-timer than Gaborik, so he should be given the option on the off-wing.

My PP units:

Gaborik - Cally - Nash
McDonagh - Richards

Stepan - Boyle - Kreider
Stralman/Girardi - Del Zotto

McDonagh has a very good shot from the point, and his skating ability allows him to put himself into better positions for shooting. Also gives us better recovery against short handed chances.

I agree with this. Would love to see McD finally get some PP time. We have to get another D so that we can cut his ES and PK time a little though.

Predictable. Easy to defend against. No threat from the point. Defenders can worry about covering their lanes, and defending against cross-ice passes.

I'd like to see more work down low, behind the net. If nothings open, throw it towards the blue-line and just get the puck on net. Hard low shots. Deflections, rebounds, dirty goals.

Defenders will sooner or later have to start taking themselves out of the play to defend against point-shots. That leaves us with a 4-3 down low. That's when you can use cross-ice passes, set up one-timers, etc.

You don't need a Zubov at the point to have an effective PP. But you do need someone who can consistently get the puck on net. Sauer is a dmen that I really respect considering he somehow manages to accomplish the impossible. Not suggesting he should man the point, just emphasizing that you don't need "player X" to accomplish this.

When we're on the PK, I cringe every single time the opposition shoots the puck from the point. Because I know a great goalie like Lundqvist is going to struggle with a deflection, rebound, or just not being able to see the puck.

I think parking the Mac truck on the blue line would go a long way, hes great at knowing when to throw in that little fake shot/ half step. Id love to see him get 1st unit PP time next year, I think he has earned it.

I totally agree with you that Gaborik should not be on the off wing. He doesn't shoot one timers and he hesitates to make a play. He is far better suited to play on the left where he can set up plays on the far side.

If Nash can give us a solid shot from a half wall that will help the PP some. We still need a threat from the point though. Btw, I HATE Girardi on the PP. Hopefully they can swing McD in, but I don't think he will be playing first PP unit. Stralman and Richards seemed to be the best pairing, if they don't acquire another PP Dman.

He does seem to be one of the few guys on our team that takes one timers.

Gabby is not a guy that rips one-timers. That's the problem, aside from Richards and McDonagh, no one rips like that. We need more point men who just rip away.
