I guess red fits, but it's not clever really. Gleason is kinda clever but it doesn't really fit. Jussi both fits and is clever. I wish we would just stick to Jussi and not be like that kid who comes up with an actually funny joke but then tries to extend it way too far.

I know I'm being anal about this . It's just that my dad and I complain about this kind of stuff while at games, and I'm curious as to what The Internet thinks: are there other people who don't join in with the "Gleason" and "red" for the same reasons as us?

I don't join in any of them, but I've got no problem with "Jussi" or "Red". "Gleason" annoys the **** out of me though. It's trying to force a joke in there to be clever, but it's not.

I'm all for the "RED" and the "JUSSI". Not so much with the "GLEASON"... that's just being a tryhard and running it into the ground. Subtle works, especially when it actually fits.

That said I'm all for other ways of showing some props to Gleason. Break out some Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld after he makes a big hit on a shift or scores a goal (wait... does that one actually ever happen anywhere but in DC?)

I enjoy playing the "where will the 'GLEASON' yell come from" game during the anthem. Seems to move every game.

Yelling stuff that is not in the Anthem is not cool.

I guess the Hurricanes support it though. They deleted my facebook post on their wall that said "Please do not forcefully inject Semin into the National Anthem..."

Evidently the Hurricanes support disrespecting the country.

As a US Army Soldier, I do NOT like that people yell other things in our Nation's Anthem. It is there as a tribute to our country, showing our support in our COUNTRY, not our team or whatever. Thats what jerseys, hats, etc are for. Not our National Anthem.

Anthems before games are lame and pointless. Why not have fun with it?

Red is an NC State thing that was transferred over, for the record.

Oh god not this again for the millionth time. Let me just go ahead and summarize what is going to happen:

Some people will say it is disrespectful for players names, colors, the word "Wolfpack" or what have you to be yelled out during the national anthem. Some people will say it is not. Some people will say they don't care if it is disrespectful or not. Either way, no one's actions will be changed, a lot of people will get their feelings hurt, and this horse will be beaten a little further into the ground. The people that do not want to yell things out will continue to not yell things out and the people that do want to will continue to do so.

Why is the team named the Hurricanes when there aren't that many actual hurricanes in the state?

Clearly the worst thing about this "tradition" is the NC State roots.

And I wish we would only do the "You see"/"Jussi" thing in the star-spangled banner. The "Gleason" and "red" thing are just kinda lame and only sorta fit.

Red was started by NC State and should NEVER go away

Dear god. No one is disrespecting our country. It's quite the opposite. They are incorporating some of the greatest things about our country into the anthem. If you think when I yell RED I'm disrespecting our country then you are taking it to an extreme.

Btw the NCSTATE infusion is the best part

oh im sorry for beating a dead horse. i guess if you had to actually pick up arms to defend the country that said song is about and represents, maybe you would, then, understand where I am coming from.

i understand people wanting to have fun and show their support, and im not trying to say thats not ok. i just take it almost personally. i fight for my country so people have the RIGHT to do that sort of thing at games, but that doesnt mean I cant think it's disrespectful, inconsiderate, and ignorant.

I'm still in shock we were able to pull this off. Noe if JR can back up his "We'd like a gritty tough guy on our team" talk that would just be whipped cream on the icing on the cake.

How does your being a veteran change the fact that the subject has been argued a million times in the exact same way with the exact same end result, and that most don't want to go through that motion yet again here on this message board?

FWIW I don't remember ever talking about this and I've been on the board for a while.

First I heard about this and I agree..I don't understand why people don't just be quiet during the anthem.. it's not particularly long.

Anyway, people will do what they do.

What I don't understand is why people don't sing along with the National Anthem. They even go through the trouble of posting the lyrics on the Jumbo-O-Tron!!

Whenever I try to sing the National Anthem (and I am a truly awful singer), all I get is odd looks and "Shut up" from my brother.
