I enjoy singing along as well.

The only thing that really irritates me is whenever someone screams something like "Let's go Sabres!" Can't you just forget team loyalty for 2 minutes?

Really? Don't be stupid. It started with NC STATE years ago and transitioned to the Hurricanes. That's not a guess. It's a FACT. But thanks for looking dumb.

With the respect most people show the Star Spangled Banner, we might as well change it to "America, **** Yeah!!" from Team America. Half the under 25 crowd in this country probably know the words to that better anyway.

lol no kidding. it really is sad. but the good thing is we have plenty of good ol' american 18-25 year olds who are serving in our military and UNDERSTAND what it means to be American and not just take advantage of it, or take it for granted.

thats not to say you have to be in the military or be a veteran to understand, but its nice to know there is a group of the younger generation who can understand better than most.

that being said, there are a few bad apples who still dont get it, think its a game. those are bad representations of our military. but for the most part, our military, all branches, is a great group of soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coastguardsmen who are going out 24/7, 365 and putting their lives on the line, and in many cases, giving the ultimate sacrifice, for their country. a country whose anthem MEANS something and isnt just a bunch of words thrown together that can be manipulated into a fan's cheer for his/her team. an anthem that represents life, honor, freedom, and the fight for each of those things.

just remember, the line "the rocket's red glare" is talking about a weapon used int he war for our independence while "the flag was still there". that flag also has red in it, which stands for all the blood shed in all the wars since, including the current ones. its not just a color to some of us. its reality. its representative of LIFE, of the friends, the brothers and sisters, we have lost in the fight to retain our freedom.

be a fan, cheer for your team, i know I do. i love my team. all of the teams I cheer for. and yeah back before I was in the military I sang the little cheers in the star spangled banner. thats before I truly understood what it meant. thats before i lost friends in Afghanistan fighting through "the bombs bursting in air". It's one thing to cheer. its another to disrespect the spirit and meaning of the most meaningful song of this country, and by changing the words to suit a team, player, etc, thats exactly what its doing. everyone cheers and stands for a random soldier at a game when they announce and show him/her on the screen talking about them just getting back from the war or whatever. but no one pays attention to their actions during the star spangled banner. the only positions a military member SHOULD stand at indoors in civilian clothes (and I say should because there are some military members out there who still dont respect it, but those are few and far between, and more often than not very new to the life) are attention (i.e. hands by the side, hands cupped inward, not moving) or with the hand over the heart. and if you watch, you may notice many people at a Canes game doing this (remember, Fort Bragg is just down the road, and there are other Army, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard bases throughout the state). But I challenge you to find one, most definitely one who has been deployed, who will throw in cheering words in place of the actual, meaningful words of the Star Spangled Banner.

Look guys, im a fan of the same team as you guys. I love the Canes. I love the games. I love being a fan.....and I love my country, and my service FOR that country. This country has too high a percentage that have always just plain not respected it and what it takes to keep its freedom. too many take it for granted. too many dont understand that its a constant battle, both figuratively and literally, to keep these freedoms. im not asking you all to change how you cheer on the Canes or any other team. just asking to keep in mind what the SSB means. go read the lyrics. yes I know we all know the lyrics, but READ them. visualize what its saying. understand each line. and apply that understanding to what those of us who go overseas are dealing with, whether you agree with the war or not. we all appreciate the support, and im not accusing anyone of not being supportive just because of a little cheer. just asking to please, please keep in consideration the real meaning of the song.

how often do we hear Canadians inserting words into their anthem? ive never heard it. they always sing the real words loud and proud. no reason we shouldnt do the same.

This. And from an Orioles fan who grew up shouting "O" in the last verse, which is the first anthem augmentation I ever heard. But I've stopped and just sing it instead now, because the number of shoutouts have gotten so out of hand. Maybe I'm just old, and old school ,but I'm embarrassed by it.

Finally got a chance to watch Rutherford's press conference about Semin. Pretty encouraging to hear how excited Semin was to be joining the organization. I'll certainly be rooting for him to find a place here and prove all the doubters wrong.

Didn't mean to get off topic.

The Canadian anthem is better. That's why they sing along to it.

Well done, sir. You win approximately seven internets.

/notsosubtleattempttokeepthisthreadsteeredawayfromw hereitwasheaded

EDIT: And you killed it with that edit there. You now lose thirteen internets, giving a final result of -6 internets.

Semen.

What the hell?

Motion to have a "Sabres-like" autocorrect function, changing every instance of the word "Semen" to "Semin."
