He got so much less than anyone thought. He would have been a great signing.

Obviously, the opportunity he has to have daily bongo sessions with the Staals is what convinced him to sign with Carolina.

He made $6.7 last season and gets $7 million now.

Lots of people on main boards were hoping to get him for $4.5M to $5M per.

Good move for Carolina. Just giving another boost to their offense. Not much risk on a one year deal so could work out nicely for them.

There was quite a bit of talk about getting Jordie for the Leafs 1st. line center role. Actually, everyone here who said he'd be a good choice for the Leafs' 1st. line put up their hands ... yes, you and you and you and ...

He was so under utilized in Pittsburgh, and was the big body everyone said would help with the dreadful defense of the first line.

Well, looks like that 1st. line center is now on the 'Canes. But wait, he's playing on the 2nd. line and not with Kessel but with Semin.

Does that mean the 'Canes second line is going to be better than the Leafs first line?

Tank Nation lives.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

Last I heard they were using Jordan on the first line and shifting Eric to the wing

Ughhhh...we need to make a move for more talent up front because of teams in the east continually doing this!

One year deal is what I meant. Anyone think he'd sign for less than 5 years?

i hope some posters didnt think I was upset the leafs didnt sign Semin.

I dont think we needed a Winger, so he was redundant on the leafs roster. However, I was pointing out that teams above and below the leafs in the standings last year, seem to be getting better and the leafs are sitting idle.

Semin makes the Canes better, there is no doubt about it. Semin would have been an upgrade over MacArthur on the Leafs. Is the additional $4M in salary worth it ? not likely. But BB needs to find a way to upgrade this team, or else the Leafs will be in the Lottery next year, if there is a season.

Does it matter if scoring on the wing is something we don't really need? Why not improve it even more because that #1 centre and Roberto Luongo are not coming this season.

His last two contracts were one year deals. Both years were underwhelming. The caps fans here in DC were pissed he got a raise, but not too upset to see him go.

That's why signing Semin for nothing but money would have been a tidy experiment/solution.

Bwhahaha

Bill would have been first in line to rip Burke a new one if the leafs had signed him.

People need to get a grip. Semin hasnt scored more then 54 pts in 2 years. Besides that, we dont need more wingers.

What roster spot do we have for him exactly?

Kessel
Lupul
JVR
MacArthur
Kulemin

Thats 4 spots and 5 players to fill out the wings.

Last time I checked there were 8 wing positions on a hockey team.

How is it that MacArthur and Kulemin are set in stone for top six winger roles?

I didn't even mention Frattin, D'Amigo, guys who can actually play the 3rd line.

But yup those guys would look great on the 4th line.

Kinda ridiculous really. That contract is a beauty. Sort of like a try-out. The Leafs should be in on these types of deals. I like Semin. He comes with baggage....yes. But he has some serious talent. In the right situation, he could be a killer player. No harm in a one year deal. Even at 7 mill.
